Confused Changing OEM Fog Light blub to HID KIT?

Hey Guys,

I have 2012 Infiniti G37xS Sedan... I have OEM Fog Light Blub and I am trying to take that blub out and install HID in that OEM FL... I went to some car shop who does all this they said if they install it.. It will burn my fog light because its plastic.... They are trying to offer me their HID Kit which is $300 and it all looked same as mine same ballat too

The place I bought it from they are saying its fine to install I will not have issues with that.

I am just little scared because its brand new car.. So I see alot of G37 guru in here.. So just want to make sure with you guys..

Is it ok if I install HID Kit in my FOG Light.. the OEM Blub is 35W and HID Kit Bulb is also 35W...

Please let me know ur advice.. I would really appreciate in advance.

Thanks
Harry

I'm not a guru or have any knowledge regarding installing HID kits.
I would like to let you know that I have a 2013 G37xS and had a 4300k HID kit installed for my fog lights...no problems what so ever!

Just to confirm, you are replacing the OEM foglight bulb with a HID kit which includes the ballast & bulb...right?
It will not work if you are just replacing just the bulb itself.

Here is a picture of mine from my HTC One S:

If you have a 35w kit, just go with it. The installers are just trying to get you to buy their kit. At the end of the day, you are installing a HID kit in your fogs. If they can install their kit on your car, they can install your kit without issues. Again, assuming you kept with the 35w.

Yes, color temperature will not make a difference, except for the amount of light output.
6000k will be less bright and more on the "blue" side.
Will still be brighter than the stock fog lights and look a way lot better.

Dragion, I would like to find out an instruction guide for DIY on my 2012 G37x sedan. I'm not savvy with cars at all, but would like to save money if I can do it myself. Did your fog lights yourself? Any help would be appreciated...

It's very easy to DIY a HID switch on your G37. If you have the lower fog lights like I do, and Draigon does, all you need to do is remove the bumper, remove the stock bulb, and plug the stock harness into a ballast and HID socket. Install your HID bulbs and enjoy. 300 bucks for an HID kit is crap though. Diode Dynamics sells their HID conversion for 80 bucks shipped AND it comes with HID bulbs of your choice.

⬆-- do you have to drop the bumper or can you do this by going through the bottom?

I....suppose you may go through the bottom, but it will be extremely cramped and will make the job 10 times as long as it takes to simply remove the bumper. I never tried it. It would be a huge PITA

Don't waste your time jacking up the car, taking off the wheels or taking off the bumper, the driver side is easily accessed through the wheel fender. Turn the wheel in, pull out the 2 or 3 pins and pull back the fender liner, done it several times for HID fog install and swap to my new car. The passenger side is not accessible through fender liner due to the washer fluid tank in the way, so just drive the car up on a brick or 2x4 to give you a little extra room, unbolt 3 or 4 of the shielding bolts under the front passenger side and peel it back to get access.

Tuck away all the HID parts, zip-tie them to anything, nice nice and enjoy. 1 1/2 hour to 2 hour max install if you are careful and take your time. Do it!

That would probably work. It's not the safest way to do it though.

Whats not safe? Driving up on a brick or 2x4? Please.... its just one wheel and use the E-brake, its not going anywhere. You don't need to, I've done it both ways but its an easy added few inches.

Certainly it's not as dangerous as other methods, all I said was that it's not the safEST way to do it. Removing the wheel well liner isn't quite as easy with the wheels still on. I simply prefer having room to see everything and not having to snake my arms to work around stuff.

Is a relay systems necessary when swapping to an HID kit for fogs, or can I get by with just a CANBUS adapter?
