i thought it was normal since the starter is pulling current from the battery and since the alrernator is not running the LEDs are also pulling current from the battery, the current is not constant and thats what causes the flicker to happen. please correct me if im wrong...

I've installed my set of LED's from Diode Dynamics - (all except the glove box lamp - will do that when I pick up a new cabin filter). ANd my new lights flicker when the motor turns over... I stand by my original comment - its normal.

Anyways - I like the results. I'm curious though - how folks how mounted the trunk replacement LED board? I ended up sticking my board to the liner material near the trunk light. I'm not certain its going to stay there though - kind of like sticking tape to carpet - not a good seal.

The lights are bright - and the shipping was fast. I laughed when I saw what they sent as the LED replacement Tool - a tiny flat head screwdriver is the same thing....

I'm curious what others have done with the trunk light ..

The trunk bulb is, well, a bulb. It's not a board. It's a direct fit replacement for the OEM bulb. The only two boards in the DD kit should be for the map lights.

I used a 921 bulb (V-LED) and just didn't close the cage. Stays in place fine and is nice & bright.

Well - I would have thought it should have been a 194 style bulb as well - but it isn't. THe irony is that I sell Automotive/Truck lighting for a living - and I'm pretty comfortable with lighting. Diode Dynamics have products that I currently don't sell - thus I bought from them.

My kit clearly states that the trunk lamp is a board - not a 194 bulb style LED.

MAybe I should message them and ask? I found it weird that the board was supposed to go there - there really isn't anywhere solid to mount it to.

Side note - I found one of my map light boards came "un-stuck" - I put pressure back on it to get it to stick - hope it doesn't become a pita....

And - I have NO extra 194 LED 's left over - the board is what I have for the trunk..... weird?

Yeah, that's not right ...map, trunk, door and license plate are all 194/168 bulbs, you can get away with a 921 in the trunk (same base but longer) leaving the cage open. That's in my '08 but even my '12 M is that way except for the front map lights. Those are the 1/2 twist kind with the little studs. Haven't found a very bright 5K bulb for those yet.

I agree with 2008G-Man
Mine are Putco 194s and they do not fliker. I'm replacing the fogs with H11 halogen bright blue 6000s and the clearance light...that's the light next to the xenons. LED bright blue in 6000 also. Just found replacement bulbs for the HIDs at a closing sale...6000k too. $40 each....thinking....

Sorry for the thread-jack Tonewheel - but just to follow up my last comment about the Board being used in the Trunk.....

Just got a message from Diode Dynamics - turns out that to get the Stage 3 output in the trunk you must use the board that I received. SO - the board I got IS in fact the correct light, but they didn't mention anywhere that the board must obviously be mounted outside of the regular bulb enclosure. Problem remains - that the only place to stick the board to is the trunk liner - which is less than a flat adhesion encouraging substance. Diode Dynamics offered to send me a standard 194 LED stage 2 - to use in the trunk. That is fine with me!

Great response time from Diode Dynamics.

I just went to Walmart and got the Velcro strips and stuck the hooks one to the board and stuck it to the trunk liner. Its been holding for now.

My LED bulbs from DD flickers when motor turning on as well. I'd say it's normal. For the trunk light I'd just stay with the stage 2 so you don't have to ghetto rig it. Stage 2 is already plenty bright over OEM.
