LED Question...

I just replaced my interior/license plate bulbs with an LED kit from DD. easy install and very pleased with the results.

Now, something I just noticed...
When I get in the car and the dome lights turn on, shut the door, start the car, the dome lights flicker during starting. Now I can't say if this happened with the stock bulbs because frankly, I never noticed before. I know this could lead to the issue of grounding kits, but this is my question: Does this dome light flicker occur with the stock bulbs? Honestly, I don't want to put my stock bulbs back in to find out because I'm too lazy . Curious to know if this is just an issue with the LEDs, or if it's universal.

The connections are fine. To be clear, the flicker is only at engine startup, otherwise they work fine.

Here's a small video I took that illustrates the concern. (Hoping that this link works )

if it flickers... it means the LED is not good.
I mean, its still a working LED, but it's not made right.

Frankly, I'm beginning to think this is normal...but I could be wrong!

Anyone else with the DD LEDs want to chime in, keeping in mind it's when the dome lights are on when the engine is turned over.

Just started mine up (09 Coupe) and the interior dome lamps flicker with the motor cranking over. I do not have LED lights in there - standard OEM spec.

Your LED lights flickering with the motor cranking over is perfectly normal. If they were getting brighter or dimmer with engine speed - then that would indicate a charging problem.

Like those LED lights in your vid - I"m a newb to modding this car - you mentioned you got the LEDs from "DD" - care to expand where that is?

Thanks for checking this out on your coupe. It's what I suspected, being normal.

DD is short for the company many here purchase their LEDs from... Diode Dynamics. The direct link for your car...same as mine...is here:
2008-2012 Infiniti G37 Coupe LED Kit

It's the kit for the door lights, dome lights, glove box light, visor vanity lights, rear plate lights and trunk light. Note on the page that you have 3 options for brightness - Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3. Stage 3 is brightest, Stage 1 is least bright. Personal preference drives what brightness one chooses. I got Stage 2 and am very happy with it. Clean and much brighter than stock, but not too bright. Note that you also have to choose the color of each LED from the drop down menu. I chose white...super clean and not a hint of color. There are photos for comparison. Installation is simple, as all bulbs are a direct swap/fit.

Good luck!

Well it's not normal, it might be normal for DD LED's but it's not normal. I'm a fan of V-LED's and have tried many other vendors, theirs have been the best by far.

Guys, next time you start your car, look up, make an observation, and let us know if you OEM bulbs/LEDs flicker.

G-Man, it's by no means a criticism of your original comment. To the contrary, it's much appreciated. However, we have different people here saying it's both a problem AND it's normal. I think we're far from knowing the real skinny here.

Also...I just unplugged the LEDs and put in the OE bulbs. They dimmed/flickered when the engine turned over.

Tonewheel - thanks for the link and info on DD - very cool.

When I first read your request - I obviously skimmed the content - and at first thought you meant your lights flickered with the car sitting idling.... I re-read your post and then realized what you were asking -

DO YOUR DOME LIGHTS FLICKER WHILE THE MOTOR IS BEING TURNED OVER?

Maybe go back and edit your first post so that those that are skimming your text - actually absorb your request accurately.

I still say its normal. My other vehicle also does this on motor turning over.
