Process on painting emblems?

Hey guys. Initially, i went with plasti dip to paint my emblems but now I'm looking to go the correct route. I searched and came across wakeboardrs process:

"-scuff with scotch brite pad (lightly! just enough to create a rough surface for the adhesion promoter to grab)
-wipe with denatured alcohol and dry
-tape off any areas you dont want painted
-apply 3 coats adhesion promoter 2-3min dry time between each coat
-after 3rd coat dry 8-10min
-apply 4 coats of color 5-10min dry time between each coat
-dry 1 hour
-apply 5 coats of clear 4-6min dry time between each coat
-dry over night or up to 24 hours. Took almost 18 hours for it to feel completly dry."

My question is, if i want a smooth look to the emblems, am i going to have to wet sand/polish/wax and all that? If someone can chime in it would be greatly appreciated as i look to tackle this tomorrow. (if there is a more in depth thread on painting emblems, i would appreciate it if someone provided me with a link. therefore the mods can delete this one) thanks again guys.

i had mine painted by my friend who works at a shop, and he did wet sand polish and wax when he was done i dont know if its "necessary" but he did say it should be done to clean up some imperfections and protect your new sexy emblems. sadly all of our emblems are plastic chrome, paint doesnt enjoy sticking to chrome so make sure you dont cheese out if you want it to come out well. also you have to decide if you want to take the emblem off to paint it or leave it on... will be a lot of hard taping if you leave it on, and as the steps you have say you have to wait a few hours before you can drive with it.

thats what i was thinking. thanks for the reply man. i think my best best is to buy a new set of emblems and have them painted because if i take off the ones that are on there now, they won't stick back on correct?

you'll need to apply new double sided tape for it to re stick on to your car once you take it off. Goo gone works pretty well but it will strip your wax.
