Vent Painting
Vent Painting
Hey guys, just a quick question for the painters out there. Gonna be taking of the front bumper this weekend to paint the headlights and while i have it off im planning on painting the faux vents on the sport bumper. Im looking to paint them just a darker black like this:

Any recommendations on grit of sand paper to use, paint, clear coat...basically everything. Im clueless on the steps required and dont want it chipping on me down the road. Thanks guys!

TBH, if your bumper is prone to getting chipped, this area, as low as it is, moreso.
That said, just clean it, sand it down with a fine sandpaper, wash and dry, mask other areas off then spray it with your favorite paint, preferably one that works best with plastic. Apply clear afterwards. Each paint requires different processes for applying and drying, so just read the instructions on the can.

Take it to collision shop to have it warrantied. To do it the right way to be clean it with wax/grease remover, scuff it with a scotch-brite pad, clean with w/g again, spray with a plastic adhesion promoter, then clearcoat over the existing black, or spray black then clearcoat. If you don't want to use a shop, go to auto parts store and you should be able to buy all the materials yourself, you'll just have to try and find all aerosal products. Hope this helps
