Windshield Cowl
Windshield Cowl
Has anyone removed the windshield cowl before?
If so how do you do it?
My G is making so much crackling noises from the windshield. I wanna take that thing off and clean everything around there and put some felt tape on it.
I brought it to Infiniti and they said that this is normal because of body flex

My passenger side windshield cowl is making so much crackling and popping noise. Took me about 10 minutes to remove it. Not too difficult.
I cleaned it up and reinstall. However, after I wash my car and with the freezing temps the noises has returned. I think I will try and buy some silicone lubricating compound this time and lubricate the cowl before putting it back on. I searched the forum and this seems to be the best solution.
Anyone else found another solution besides silicone spray or lube? Anyone tried inserting some foam tape?
Thanks.

I've got tape/felt applied to the underside of the cowl in my car. It's better than without it but when the temperature drops below 4 celcius (39F) it intermittently makes popping noises. Short of consistently spraying a lubricant into the cowl, I don't think anyone has completely resolved this:

Someone in the above thread placed plastic in between as a buffer, not sure if that fixed it permanently

I manged to get rid of the creaking sounds for good on both of my G37.
After removing the cowl, there are 2 soft seal cords on the cowl groove, where the glass fit's
Remove that cords and wash them. Also wash the grooves to remove any mud from there.
The original seal cords are like this:

Puth the seal back in place then add some D-type froam door seal on top of them.

You can buy D-type door seal froam from HomeDepot

Puth the cowl back in place then you are good to go.

Adhesive side should touch the original insolating strip inside the cowl

Remove the battery and brake covers, then pop up the seven or so plastic rivets (small flat head screwdriver, pop up the center of the rivet, do not remove the center, and pull up with fingers) on each side. They are all visible when you remove the battery and brake covers, plus one on the fender and one on the firewall. The cowl is in two pieces and the passenger side must come off first. Pull forward making sure not to tear the rubber seal that connects both pieces. The the drivers side pulls off. I think the wiper arm needs to be removed to get the drivers side completely off.
p.s. I just did this the past weekend to install my yellow top optima. The passenger side cowl needs to come off to replace the battery.
