Paintjob

Hi,
So quick question here for all of you paint/body guru's. My paint took some wear before I got it and I was thinking about repainting it to a different color all together. What should I expect cost wise from a high quality shop to pain the whole car a different color? Also in a repaint is there any issue of trying to darker or lighter than the stock color or does it just require more coats like painting a house?

Thanks!

Quality paint job done right will likely cost upwards of $4,000.

yep, it won't be cheap, just pay for a good detail job, sometimes that's all it needs!

^^ I agree. To do it "right" requires pulling engine, hood, deck lid, doors, fenders, and all trim. The color also plays into cost. Certain colors require more labor and cost more than others. You're looking at $5-$6k depending on where you're located. If you do need to paint, I recommend slightly altering factory color with a coat of pearl or some variation of original color. You don't want to get into painting inside/underside of everything.

Along this same subject, what should a "good detail job" include?

High quality job which includes painting the engine bay, door jams, trunk jam, bottom of trunk, under hood/hoodpad, removal of all glass will run you upwards of 10 grand from a premium shop.

I am really liking the paint job on the 350Z that is listed in the FS section. I think the gunmetal is awesome. I know I could get away with a good detailing but I think this color would look awesome on the G. Any thoughts?? Worth it??

If you've got money to blow then sure why not It s all about what makes you happy in your ride. Just remember to keep some extras of that paint batch in case you need any kinda touch up later.

when i had my old altima done almost 5 years ago... shaved the moldings, shaved the door handles, full paint job, fit the crappy VIS fiberglass body kit only cost $5500 with the paint job ...3 coats of paint, 3 coats of clear.

Hempstead Auto Collision did my work in New York... they do all the show cars for Konig/Maxim/Privat

The ONE thing with paint, or anytime you do an entire new paint job, make sure you're happy with it. Runs, make sure its ppg paint, but also how the paint adhears.

From experience of having a full car painted,.....the most frustrating thing is realizing you spent SO MUCH MONEY ...yet there's just NO WAY to prevent the car from getting everyday chips besides trailoring it, painters tape, etc etc etc which becomes a pretty big headache.
