Repainting the G.

Hey guys...

I've been seriously thinking about getting my car repainted. So far, I haven't seen any G37 coupes being painted a different color than oem paint... except JR's High End show car and the few matte blacks around here.

Looking at a very dark grey/metallic color, possibly even black, or..... something totally different like this..

what do you guys think?

whenever I get mine painted again i'll probably go for something that wouldn't look too far off from the original.

Cosmos black or some type of metallic based dark color to hide blemishes better.

Most good places would get the door sills? Or is it strictly exterior.

I'd be scared to see different colors in some areas.

would be nice, but there's a lot of work involved to get it done right.

just get it wrapped... that's what a lot of show cars are doing now a days, I believe 3M makes the film, you can choose ANY color, and always go back to stock. the problem with "paint" is as Loi said, it's BIG $$$ to get it right (engine bay, door sills, undercarriage etc etc etc). also, if you ever sell the car, your color won't match the vin, and people will think you were in an accident.

I want something permanent, so wrapping is out. A good paintjob here would cost me around $2.5K to $4K. This is including the door sills etc. I don't really mind leaving the engine bay and undercarriage as is.

There’s another factor to consider that I ran into a few years ago with my wife’s old car. She had been hit on the driver’s side and the body shop had to repaint the door, including the inside areas. Afterward, there were no longer any stickers on the door jamb as it had been worked on and repainted.

I considered finding a replacement for the manufacturer’s information sticker that includes many specific data elements for that particular car including the manufacture date, but thought it was nearly impossible so I forgot about it. But when we traded the car in on her new car that’s the first thing they looked for. They assumed the car had previous body work and they gave us much less on the trade-in than we wanted.

Considering all the stickers on your car that would now be missing and nearly impossible to replace, including the two on the driver’s door jamb and at least four more under the hood that are glued over the OEM color, you may run into a similar problem as mine when you eventually sell the car. Take a look under your hood and you’ll see what I mean. And inside the trunk lid too, there are many areas that are in your car’s OEM color that will certainly increase the cost of repainting.

If you decide not to repaint these areas, an observant buyer or wholesaler will spot it immediately. You’ll have a hard time explaining that the repainting was for other than a serious accident.

please get yellow or jaguar green. no one would dare steal your car with those colors, even though our cars are one of the most stolen vehicles.

JohnnysG: PM'd you back. sorry so late.

Chekov: Thanks for the heads up, I will definitely emphasize to have the painter mask all the stickers if I do get it painted. I would assume that a good painter will not paint over those stickers. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Creepers: ummmmm.............. Heyl NO!
