don't waste your money at a shop! I painted my calipers myself and it cost me close to nothing except for the can of paint. All you have to do is jack the car up (you can use the jack that comes with the car in the trunk), take the wheel off, cover the rotor and parts you dont want to paint with newspaper, put the wheel back on and you're done! I did them myself and all of my friends think i did em at a professional shop from how good they look

$20 at Home Depot..

Loosen down the wheels, jack up the car, cover the parts you don't want paint on, paint it, put back the wheels, lower down the jack, use a torque wrench and tighten your nuts.

hopefully that made sense lol

Do they make "covers" for the Calipers? Colored of course.

How about some pics from those of you that have done it, show a little of the car too so we can see the color of the car with the wheels & calipers.... please

I'm actually tempted to do this. I have the big brakes and they are smooth so it's just begging to be painted. I did it to my M45 years ago and they looked great except I had to spend 2 hours on each brake smoothing it down with a Dremel. Since these are already smooth, it should be very easy. I was actually thinking of doing it in Yellow then I thought maybe black since yellow might be a tad ricey. Anyways, my wife has teased me about it everytime I bring it up. I think I'll leave it stock unless I get real bored one weekend. Heh, I love these Japanese cars. So much fun to modify. I got the Hotchkiss sway bars delivered this afternoon. Who knows what's next after that.

I don't have any pictures but I can assure you it looks completely professional. I used nothing more than high-temp automotive spray paint (that you can buy from any auto store) and it came out perfectly. I'll try to get some pics but don't be afraid to do it...it's super easy.

this is where i got the inspiration from: YouTube - Mighty Car Mods - How to paint your brake calipers DIY (SE01 EP10) lol

my calipers look alot better than that because I didnt use that bright of a red. avoid using bright red it looks too ricey! mine is more of a darker metallic red same type of paint that was found on the gold brembo brakes on g35's if you know what i mean.

^^ could you post pics please??

I've painted my previous car's calipers, I used high temp paint. It came out OK.

I'm a bit hesitant to do it on my G's Akebono's though.

Powder coating would be best but I can't have downtime on my car right now.

The way your calipers look after you paint them all depends on the type of PAINT that you use. This is the exact type of spray paint that I used for my calipers (the metallic red):

The first time I painted my calipers I used normal red duplicolor caliper paint and it didn't look that good. The second time I did it, I used the above spray paint and got a MUCH better result. This color is the perfect shade of red and looks brilliant with the metal specks in it. Now for how to do it:

1) Loosen the lug nuts on your wheel
2) Jack the car up
3) Completely loosen and remove the lug nuts and then take off the wheel (you may have to pull really hard to take it off)
4) Spray some brake degreaser around your caliper to remove any dust or grease
5) Using newspaper and tape, cover your brake rotor and parts of the body around the wheel...I used tons of newspaper just to be careful and it looked like this:

6) Now to apply the paint, make sure you keep a distance when spraying the paint so you can get an even coating. When applying your first coat, the spray paint may not stick right away but be patient. As you apply the second and third coat the paint will eventually stick very well.
7) Apply three coats of the spray paint on your caliper.
8) Wait for the paint to dry and then remove the tape/newspaper
9) Put the wheel back on your car and put the lug nuts on, tightening them with your hand
10) Lower the car, tighten the lug nuts completely.
11) Repeat for the other three wheels

note: that picture was when I painted my calipers the first time. The second time I painted them I used the Duplicolor metal specks paint and it looks waaaaaaaaaay better so I recommend that. Also, I've had this paint on my calipers for months now and it is very durable. If anyone has any questions just let me know

So you didn't do any sanding? just cleansed the surface with degreaser?

How's the paint holding with the temperature and wear and tear? any peeling?

No I didn't do any sanding at all. The paint won't stick completely right away (be patient and don't freak out) but it will stick for sure during the first coat. and once you apply the second and third coats it will be perfect. I've had the paint for months and there is no wear or tear at all. it's a high temp paint so there is nothing to worry about
