Touch Up Paint or Body Shop?

so i brought my car to the dealership today to show them the scratch on the bottom of my car. They said that the touch up paint will cover up the scratch but i will have to bring it to a shop to get the paint smooth again. I don't know if i should bring it to the body shop because who knows what kind of black paint they use and i dont want two different shades of black on my car where the scratch was. Can shops match the stock color of my car which is Black Obsidian? or should i just cover it with the touch up paint?

Do NOT let the dealership touch the scratch. They will only make it worse. I had a horrible experience with the dealership and my car with a chip in the door. See my previous posts if you wanna see how bad the dealership can mess up a brand new car. Take it straight to a body shop and they will let you know if they can touch it up or repaint the panel. A reputible body shop will be able to match the paint perfectly. Plus the black obsidien is very easy to match since there is no metallic to it. My body shop did a great job repainting my door and no one can notice that it's been repainted.

ya i am going to take it to a body shop tomorrow. the scratch is at the very bottom of the drivers side door and its about 2 inches long. When they buff the scratch out and re paint it i wonder how much of the area they are actually doing? will they use a different black color or will they find my obsidian black somewhere?

They will use the Nissan black paint. It will match. The only difference will be if you have an 09 you won't be able to get the scratch shield clearcoat. The clear coat will look the same as the rest of the car though. Just make sure to take it to a good body shop. My body shop repainted my door for $450. I'm not sure how bad your scratch is so maybe they won't have to repaint the door. I had a tiny chip in my door by the handle. Maybe with a scratch it will be easier to fix. Good luck.

The black obsidien is Nissan black paint. The body shop will know the code to match the color. Sounds like the scratch is on your side skirt. That should be very easy to fix. Take it to a good body shop and it will look brand new.

G Girl is right its on the skirt under the door towards the front of the car. Its about 2 inches long. I just dont want the body shop to buff or paint a large area on the drivers side to try to blend the scratch in. I hope they just do that little area on the bottom. Will the new paint or whatever they put on wear differently over the years/car washes or no haha?

The area should not wear any differently over the years as the rest of the car. Just don't wax the area they repaint for at least 30 days.

And since your car is pretty much brand new they shouldn't have to blend any of the other panels around it. When my car was done the body shop didn't have to blend any of the panels. The black paint on this car is very easy to match.

It's not the side skirt. It's part of the fender. I'm not sure how much they will need to repaint. That looks like a deep scratch so they will probably paint a very good section of your front fender. If you are willing to spend the money then it can look brand new. Where did this scratch come from?
