new paint
Unless it was a nice sunny day, it was hard to notice. I would squint at my car when the sun came out and pretend the paint was nice.
That's why when the car is new, I take a day to apply layers and layers and layers and layers of wax with an orbital buffer. Then I keep on it. Mine is not too bad after 17K miles. My OB G35 was worst because I didn't realize how soft it was and didn't give it quite as much attention.
...also don't use harsh detergents to wash your car. That's a good way to strip off all of the wax and get that dried out look. On the occassions that you might do so to remove stains, bugs etc reapply A LOT of wax.
