Hi guys, I need some unbiased opinions so please chime in.

How much of a difference in quality do you think there is between different brands of automotive paint? I want to make sure the one I choose is decent.

Also, would I be able to tell if a spray-gun paint is used or if aerosol spray can paint is used by the painter?

Thanks!

There are different aspects of quality between brands. Some are easier to spray, some have better coverage, and some cure at faster rates. Different painters usually have different brands they prefer. As long as a shop uses a quality brand, you shouldn't have any issues. PPG, Glasurit, Dupont, HOK, Spies Hekker, there are a few other good companies...find out what the shop uses and do some research.

Edit: A lot of shops sometimes use rattle cans for painting trim pieces. I don't think you will have an issue win a shop painting your car with a spray can.

Thanks speedracer, would I be able to tell the difference if a regular dupli-color spray can is used vs. spray gun paint?

Yes! Huge difference bro. I used to use dupli-color spray cans on the grilles and the quality is TRASH compared to a spray gun paint quality.

Go for spray gun. Make cleaner and comes out better....

Sounds like the "Warmachine" is getting modified even more.

For what it is worth... My dad has restored a few classic cars and has always used PPG paints.

Yea, PPG is what I have lined up for the Arc Reactor right now. But I'm not exactly thrilled with the guy I might work with for the paint so I want to make sure he won't just use some rattle can from Kragen on me (or on your housings). Just trying to be thorough in the research, instead of having some random paint sprayed on.

Thanks for the feedback, blackjack!

What was your process, I used dupli-color on my grill and turned out ok, I think.
