Not sure I follow your end game here and since my entire rear seat folds down, I don't have the same issue. However, I don't typically drive with the rear seat down anyway. Is the (somewhat) separated space of your trunk disrupting your sound?

There is a seat release in the trunk on the upper left side of the trunk opening. There is usually also a red ribbon flag accessible on the drivers side of the rear seat. if its present, you can usually find it by slipping your hand down between the seat back and seat pan

Makes sense, I don't pay much attention to anything with 4 doors Thanks for the info. Still would like to know the OP's original issue. Not sure what the seat being up or down has a bearing on but curious

so a sub needs air, it needs air flow, also the "structural integrity" with the sedan's seats not going down reduces the amount of "oomph" with the bass, cause its a giant metal wall basically.

Understood. Keep in mind there are multiple issues at work here from what direction do your subs fire in(side to the center, front to rear, rear to front, up??); what type of enclosure are your subs in (sealed box, tuned bandpass, simple ported??) and where do you crossover your subs at?

Once thing I noticed when I was playing around with subwoofers was that if you put a subwoofer in a tuned box (with a single or multiple ports) into a trunk, you are creating a bandpass enclosure. This is because you have a tuned airmass behind the cone and an undetermined air mass in front of the cone. The dynamics change drastically when the rear seat is lowered as the airmass in front of the cone changes substantially. I would tune the car with the rear seat up and when I put the seat down, the tune went out the window. Id get more air movement in the cabin but the bottom end of the bass was diminished. The following clip from Youtube shows actual measurements taken with various configurations. Note that he has the sub mounted firing backwards and has (somewhat) isolated the trunk from the rest of the car so your results will be a bit different

Probably the biggest impact on your bass is the direction the subs are firing. This site explains the physics well

Subwoofer Aiming

Finally, a couple of good discussions on this issue

Seat Up or Down
Honda Forums

I've seen a lot of enthusiasts order parts for the rear seat delete kit and cover the opening with acoustically transparent material although I suspect the reason you bought the sedan was for the back seat so taking it out may not be an option

The subs in my trunk are tuned (passively and actively) at 35 Hz. They only augment the bass coming primarily from the woofer I have in my door panels. The subs are located at the rear of the trunk and face backwards. With the seat down, I get the sensation of air pressure changes in the cabin but the actual sound quality is poor. The cabin resonates much more violently as well which makes tuning more difficult . With the seat up, I don't get the air pressure changes (Unless the SPL is cranked up) but I do get a much more precise deep impact and the resonance points are easier to tune out.

Others will likely have more information specific to the sedans.

very informational, i see what you mean, i think then what my best bet is, is to do bass tests and see where the graph lies, i have tweaked around with moving the sub before, but sometimes can be kinda difficult, or just no changes. ill see what i can pull off. do you recommend any software to use? on Windows

Sorry, I'm about 10 years post tuning on my setup so any software I used back then would not be applicable now. Miloz might be a good user to ask about gear
