Just replaced the car battery on my 2009 coupe only to find the remote control doesn't unlock or lock the doors. The buttons on the armrest don't seem to operate the door locks either. The car starts ok when the key is inserted, but cannot lock the car. Hope someone can help or give me some ideas as to what the problem might be.
I live in the UK so a visit to the dealership is out of the question as Infiniti closed all its dealerships last year.
Does your car have the door lock button on the exterior door handle? Do they work? Are you able to open the trunk with they key remote and/or with the exterior button?
All of the locking functions are controlled by the BCM (Body Control Module). As your engine starts the issue is likely not your key. It really sounds as of you might have a blown fuse. I am attaching copies of the factory diagram FOR REFERENCE. I indicated what fuses could be suspect. I would not imagine there being any major wiring differences between US and UK-spec cars, but I can not say for certainty.
Assuming all fuses are good then you will have to dig deeper. Keep in mind that any Nissan dealer can work on these cars- whether or not they will is a entirely different story.
Also, as a side note, check the BCM area for water intrusion. Though not likely your issue, while you are in there checking on things...
Thanks for your concise reply as well as the wiring diagrams. Please excuse me but I'm not an electrically minded, so can you pin it down to a particular fuse rather than go through all of them to check if they are blown. The fuse cover in the cabin doesn't unfortunately mention each function clearly enough and the handbook is next to useless. I really appreciate your help.
Unfortunately I can not break it down any further. Aside from the obvious differences between US/UK/EU-spec cars, there may be minor differences that I just can not know nor predict. This is why I provided the above diagrams, from US-spec cars, as a reference point. The diagram on the fuse box cover should have fuses listed with "(BAT)" or "(IGN)." Focus on the ones with "BAT" in the title.
Personally, I would disconnect the battery and check all of the fuses as a first step. However, if you are uncomfortable doing this, perhaps there is a neighbor or close friend who may be willing to help?
As a last resort, even though Infiniti pulled out of the UK, any Nissan dealer or reputable garage can work on these cars. It is, after all, still a Nissan.
Wish I could have been more help...

You have been great help so many thanks for that. I have checked all the fuses that are near the battery and all fine there. I am going thr the mental agony of pulling all the fuses that reside in the footwell. They don't seem to correspond with the diagram on the cover so they will all have to be removed and checked. Again, thanks for the advice.
