Hi all, this is my first post after some months of following your forum while I was looking for a nice used G37 vert (it was quite a good help). Finally I have it since last week.
The car is a '13 unit with 90,000 km on it and seems to be quite fine. Only thing that is driving me mad is one of the two central front parking sensors, which is failing and warns every tim I come to a stop. Really annoying. Until I decide to take the work to remove the bumper and replace it... is there a way to deactivate these sensors?
Thanks and I hope to be around for long (without failures, if possible).
Hey Doc, welcome and congrats on finding your new ride. Here in the US I don't think any of our Gs came equipped with front sonar, only rear. (I could be wrong). The rear system was only activated when in reverse and you were able to shut it off with the switch located next to the trunk release switch near the driver's left knee. Pic below from a manual.
Hi, thanks for the reply. I hope to be around for quite some time. Regarding that switch, I use it but, surprisingly, it only disconnects the system till next interference, which means it buzzes again at next stop. If I do not find any other alternative I was thinking of messing arround with that switch and maybe bridge it...
BTW, I finally decided for this 2013 unit instead of a 2012 unit with less km on it (and more wear thanks to careless owners I guess) thanks to this forum and threads about the infamous gasket. I hope to be safe with the '13
So your car is equipped with front sonar? That's cool - except when malfunctioning... Are you sure you need to remove the bumper to get to those sensors? Any access from the grill down or from underneath with the splash guard removed? You're probably right though, that would be too easy.
A common mistake body shops make is putting a corner sensor into a middle spot. They're different and need to be in the correct locations and orientation (level, not turned or upside down).
The Sonar control unit (on a US model '13 G37 sedan) is just behind where that disable switch is located. In theory, if you located that box you could just unplug it. There seem to be 2 fuses involved (again, US '13 G37 sedan) #3 and #19, but those also power other things so you wouldn't want to just pull them.
Meanwhile, I guess you need to get in the habit of pressing that bypass button every time you start the car.

Thanks, unluckily you have to press that switch every time you reduce speed below around 5 km/h. The system is disabled when the car thinks you are in normal dive and reactivates when it thinks you are looking for a parking or something, so actually the sensors start buzzing at every traffic light, traffic jam, stop signal... It’s hell. I think you completely need to remove the front number to reach them, but I will try some contorsionism from below. Let’s see.
Update: not solved, but nearly. After reading some comments about bent license plates, I decided to remove a part that sits between the plate holder and the bumper. It is just a piece of plastic, screwed to the bumper and painted its color, that holds the plate about 20 mm away from the bumper and allows it being completely flat. I removed it and screwed the plastic plate holder directly to the bumper. Now the sensors buzz now and then. I still need to test drive it, so far just a static test in my garage. Weird, because that part must have been there since new...
on the other hand, I think I could reach the sensors from underneath, just removing the under tray. I will try to do so this weekend if needed
Nice idea. Would be great if that helped! Here are a couple more details from '13 US sedan FSM (rear bumper, but I think the front and rear sensors are the same).
I believe the center sensors are 25994PA (plus numbers following the dash indicating color) and the corners are 25994P. Could be tricky to find your color match but this may be one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-Gen...4AAOSwQ61bZiCf
If you are lucky enough to be able to reach them from below, first make sure they're not turned - as the pic below shows. And beyond that, I wonder what would happen if you found the offending sensor and left it unplugged?
