Wow, this device worked great! For anyone who stumbles upon this thread this was a really easy and clean solution with no tools required. Here's how it came out:

Love that solution! My mirror power already has a MobileEye wired into it. How would I go about splitting power to the 10pin mirror port? Newbie to electrical.

How is the MobileEye wired to it? If you can still remove the wire harness from the back of the mirror (with anything else wired in), then when you plug the harness back into this device it will retain it's power.

That looks great! I like that no modifications are required to the existing wiring harness for the mirror. Does the USB port provide switched/accessory power or is it constant? I'm thinking about buying one myself.

It turns on and off with the car. So no constant power. I prefer it that way so the cam doesn't run at night and drain my battery.

That's the answer I was hoping for, thanks for getting back to me! Just placed an order on Amazon.

I just got mine in the mail, its much much smaller than I expected and the electrical tape is applied very neatly too...IMO better than it looks in the pics...if it wasn't for the anticipated durability I'd just leave it, but it looks very simple to unwrap and replace with shrink wrap...I'm just glad its a solution that doesn't require cutting into other wires or running long runs across the car

I bought that same adapter for my G37 as well it was a a clean setup. I used it once and it got so hot it wouldn’t power the USB anymore. I am now waiting on the refund for the adapter. The seller was pretty cool with the situation.

His response to me.

That's cool he made it easy for a refund. I still think it's worth buying another one. I wonder if the issue had to do with the type of dash cam you used or the USB wire you used to connect to it? I bought a short 3 inch USB cable with right angle connections on it. I've been using the same set up for the last few months with no problem. I even have the camera on the outside of my sunshade (so the light is getting reflected on it) and I still have not had any issues nor has the tape unraveled.

i thought that too. But the guy who recommended me getting it has no issues with his either. I used a short cable as well. Even when the camera wasn’t plugged in; it still stayed hot. I may pull it apart and look at it and see if I can’t fix it.
