Trunk Randomly Open
[Q]My trunk randomly opens while driving, middle of the night, pretty much every 10 minute my trunk auto opens been doing this for a little over 24 hours now. The other day my Intelligent Key light came on.. I dont know if these 2 situations are similar but since that light came on(it now is off and hasnt came back since the one time) my trunk opens whenever. Ive tried the switch in the glove in both positions still randomly opens.. Any ideas?
[A1]It opens back up if it thinks the key in the trunk. So either your second key fell in the trunk or you have some malfunction with the smart key system I would guess.
[A2]The switch in the glove box only effects the physical trunk switch to the left of the steering column. Your description of the problem points to the key fob. Did you replace the fob's battery after the light came on? I would open the fob and check to be sure nothing is pinched or misaligned (meaning the trunk switch contacts, etc). Maybe leave the battery out for a while to see if the trunk continues to open on its own. Do you have a second fob?
I guess the next thing to check would be the wire bundles that pass into the trunk lid. Pull back the rubber boots and look for any fraying or exposed wires that could be shorting.
[mod]Well, that didn't work as I had hoped.

Early this year I had the same issue, and the push to start wouldn't work( I had to insert fob into that designated area to start). I changed, the battery and same issue occured. Got fed up and drove to the dealership which was about 20 to 30 miles away. 5miles before arriving, I pulled over and shut the car off and tried the push to start; It worked, I drove and the trunk didn't open and has been fine so far. Decided not to go to the dealership. I'm going to guess its a programming issue with the fob, in my case it fixed it self.

Probably a stupid question but do you keep your fob in your pants pocket? Mine was opening at random and it was my leg pressing against the fob in my jeans pocket.
