Exclamation Gas tank sensor question!

So my gas gauge has been reading wrong for quite sometime so earlier this week I decided to clean out the sensor with Q tips. Seems that my gas gauge was working and it would go down to the E line.

So as my warning light goes off for low gas, I go and gas up and it filled up 18.5 gallons of gas! I stopped it myself because I was worried something went wrong and it wouldn't stop automatically. Has anyone else filled up 18.5 gallons or more? Also my gas gauge line is higher then the Full sign now.

It appears it has a 20 gallon tank so depending on how empty it is is should take every bit of 18.5 gallons or more.

Don't panic until you go over 19 gallons. Then you'll realize just how close you were to tunning out of gas.

I regularly go a needle width past E, even then I'm only putting in a bit over 18 gallons.

Psh. Back when I was DDing my Stealth I once put 20.3 gallons in it and it has a 19.8 gallon tank.

Did you report that filling station to the Feds for bilking customers? They have jurisdiction in that arena.

This. I was beyond empty. Basically running on fumes. I knew I was low and the car actually jerked like it was going to shut off 1/4 mile before I pulled into the gas station.

I'm fairly certain the fill tube does not hold half-a-gallon.

I was not even below E, I was maybe 1/4th line. So I'm guessing my sensor is off.

I was expecting only 15 gallons or so and once it filled up to 18.5 I let it off thinking I must have messed something up when placing the sensor back in.
