Yeah, I made my custom phone mount right beside the navigation screen and mostly use Google or Waze. My Sirius traffic doesn't cost me a penny, so it's a nice option to have. I live in an area that is in a development boom, even the highways around me got extended by 50 km.

I couldn't stand to have one of those suction cup monstrosities attached to my windshield or protruding from the dash like a tumor to hold my phone.

Yeah, I absolutely hate having some extra mount thing suction cupped to the windshield or stuck in the CD hole. $20 all in, more than happy with my DIY solution.

I felt that way too after trying a few options but I’d rather have it in my line of sight and not worry about glancing down and taking my eyes off the road. Looks good though.

I used these magnet mount that clips on to the A/C vent. Works well and looks relatively stealth and clean. One down side is it does block airflow a bit when you turn on the AC. Not really a big deal though.

Although I prefer the nav in my phone, the number 1 problem with using the phone is that the GPS signal is weak when you are in the middle of a crowded city (like Chicago). Too often, when I get close to my destination (one that I'm not familiar with), like a few blocks or turns away, the GPS will lose signal and I'm navigating blind.

I would think any gps system would have poor reception in such environments (very tall buildings). In the old days.... we used........ PAPER maps and drew route sheets.

I personally use a garmin driveluxe 50 for road trips - this permits custom routes to be designed on the pc then uploaded to the gps. No issue in areas of no cell reception.

You can't beat Google Maps or Waze for updates, traffic, and price.
Perhaps, but I have numerous instances where Google Maps and Waze were unable to find locations that the Infinity Nav got spot on
