Tweeter Install?

I'm strongly considering changing out the tweeters in the Bose Studio on Wheels system? Who else has done it? What did you change to? What brands do I look for? I've always been partial to Infinity for car stereo stuff but it's been a few years since I've done anything.

I'm not really interested in a component system b/c I already have a sub in the trunk that provides a good low end punch.

Thanks!

KEG, I was going to go with Infinity speakers as well...not for the name though...but because I had access to an employee discount. However, my car stereo guy steered me into a full tilt boogie JBL system (with an MS-8 audio processor), because JBL is also available on discount to me and they're the better quality of the two. I haven't gotten it installed yet, because I've been a bit up in the air yet about how much longer I'll be keeping my G Sedan.

You might try the JBL GTO19T or GTO18T for tweeters. Are you planning on driving them off of the factory amp?

I'll look into the JBL's. I've got Infinity stuff in my Miata and just like the smooth sound of it. It has nothing to do with matching the car name. That's

I'm going to run everything off the factory head unit and amp. I don't want to get into a full stereo install at all! Thanks for the input!

I actually when ahead and did a whole JL Audio Component System install. Came out better the OEM one's I had. The clarity was amazing. Thinking of Doing little more now with JL.

Keg, before I eliminated the bose amp, I replaced all of the speakers and temporarily powered everything via the bose. It sounded harsh on the high end, and the low end had disappeared. I had already installed a 10" JL in the trunk, so there was bass back there, but there was hardly any bass / midbass in the front of the car.

I pulled the bose amp, installed the MS8, with two additional amps to drive the new speakers. It sounded much better after that. Harshness was gone, bass returned up front, and the overall balance was incredible. I know that you're not interested in adding amps or overhauling the entire system, but I just wanted to advise you of the kind of sound I had when driving the new speakers on the bose amp.

No problem! I'm really wanting to dump the factory speakers and amp. "Got no highs, got no low's, holy crap, it must be Bose." <--That's generally my impression of Bose. It's ok but it could be better.

I know it'll be a fairly in-depth installation so I'm debating on when I want to embark on that.

N4S, what did you use for amps and how much power? I'll have to look again but my sub amp is pretty beefy and I got a 4 channel for the rest but I'm concerned about power. I definitely don't want headlights dimming and stuff like that.

I'm considering an aftermarket alternator to avoid those kind of issues but was just curious what your experience was with that.

Thanks!

Similar to the Bose system in the 1st Gen, are the speakers in the current model 2 ohm as well?

Infinity Kappa 10.11t 3/4" soft dome tweeters at Crutchfield.com

Crutchfield rep pushed me against these Kappas, saying that they're not much different than the Reference series. Just a longer warranty and handle more power, which doesn't matter with the stock amp.
