Best aftermarket security solution?

I just had my car broken into.

My deductible is $300 and a new pane of glass is $290 so won't bother claiming.

I've called a few security install places and they all say I will need to now carry 2 remotes(infiniti key and new FOB)

This doesn't seem efficient, possible to disable OEM security altogether?

Leaning towards Compustar but really don't want to carrying extra stuff around.

Viper makes an alarm that uses your smart phone as the remote. You will need you OEM FOB regardless since it controls your immobilizer, but this will allow you to continue carrying a single FOB.

You should have glass coverage. Deductible will not apply.

I looked into the Viper Smart start and Best Buy wanted $500. Anybody else ever price theses things out? I guess as pointed out whether you have an alarm on or not your glass can still be broken and have to pay for it to be fixed. What did you have stolen?

They swiped my sunglasses, dash cam, gps and some loose change. Everything was out of sight so I guess they just rolled the dice.

I decided to go with a Compustar 2-way system. Got it loaded with tilt, shock, glass, etc.

I went crazy

I got them to toss in am extra blue led light. I wanted FULL visibility when it was armed.

So far I'm happy with the range of the 2-way remotes. I like to be notified the instant the alarm is triggered.

Will see how it goes, may add the Drone module down the road.

Leave nothing

So sorry for your loss. Theft sucks. It's not the fact they took something of yours, it's just the lack of respect and the violation of just common courtesy.

In all my cars I never leave anything that can be a tell tale sign that the car has something valuable in it.

No CD's and no sorter above my head to store the extra CD's (2 bucks a piece at a pawn shop)
No loose change (bums will break a $200+ window for 35 cents)
No wires protruding out (Hmm that's not a cell phone charger connector)

I do carry a Glock30 with 11 rounds of Federal hollow point.

Sorry that this happened to you. Had my HU stolen in my previous car, worst part is that it was right by my home.

I just had a couple of questions about the Compustar unit, if you don't mind

Which model did you have installed, and about how much did the install run you?

Do the lock/unlock proximity buttons on the door handle still function properly? How does that work, I'm assuming you first have to unlock with the Compustar remote before pressing the door handle button?

I don't have a problem with carrying around two remotes, just wondering about the functionality of the OEM system, and if there are any quirks that come up after the addition of the Compustar. Overall, would you recommend the setup? Whatever the cost, I will feel comfortable spending it if this is a reliable system for our cars that can protect my investment, or at least help deter crooks.

Thanks

I didn't go for the starter combo, just the alarm + 2-way LCD remote kit and all the extras.

Model is RF-p2w901-ss.

Alarm + install was $1200. But this was up in Vancouver so probably cheaper in the US.

The way I look at it is if it prevents 4 people from breaking my glass over the course of its life it has paid for itself.

The way it is configured is like having the oem system and compustar running side by side. I can still use all the OEM functions. In fact the door and truck buttons are easier to use on the car. Remote trunk release(compustar) is too slow.

I think with the drone module it would be ideal, I just didn't want to drop that much money all at once. Will get it added next month.

Only issue is I had to reprogram my windows and door lock. The auto up feature was switched off and the door auto/unlock when I parked. I had previously changed those settings.

But all in all very minor. Super happy with it!

Thanks so much for the information. That's approximately what I was estimating the cost to be. I agree with you 100% on the system paying for itself. Looks like I'll be going with this, especially now that I'm planning an audio system overhaul.
