Car wont shift into gear

Hi guys,

I was trying to pull out my A/V unit and splice into the xm input, something went wrong along the way...it may have been because i tried starting it while in drive?

Anyways, the car starts, is in park but wont shift to any other gear, wont turn off with a single click of the push button-it requires a long hold, the gauges arent displaying anything, and the center console buttons arent working other than the emergency blinkers, although everything is properly connected.

I tried disconnecting the negative terminal of battery but that didnt help.

Any help would be appreciated

Not sure why you started another thread with the same question?

I take it you only tried disconnecting the negative battery cable after the problem occurred?

Cutting into wires without disconnecting the battery prior to doing any wiring cutting may have likely caused your problem.
Why did you attempt to start the car while in drive?
When an auto transmission vehicle is parked shouldn't the transmission be in Park?
You should have tried to obtain a plug and play adapter to adapt the existing wiring harness without having to cut any wires.
Crutchfield may have them?

is the white box (ac regulator) above the radio plugged in or in correctly. these are all the signs of this unit not being plugged in.

Ya I didnt disconnect the battery before i began cutting.

The white box is properly connected I double checked.

I did find a blown fuse, "Elec Parts (ign)" . Upon replacing the fuse, double checking the connections, and reconnecting the battery, it blew again and the problems persisted.

I figured out the problem, there was a short that was causing the "elec parts" fuse to blow which was causing all the problems.

Thanks for your help
