Cell Phone Phonebook

2010 G37x and a Samsung Galaxy S4. My phone is paired and I can make calls but sometimes the handset phone book section is greyed out and I can't pull up any numbers in my cell phone book. It will be greyed out one minute and back the next. Seems like every time I want to use it it's gone. The funny thing is even if it's greyed out and I can't select numbers from the phone book I can still get numbers using the voice commands but that is getting to be a pain since there are several names the car doesn't understand and I can't call those people when the phone book is greyed out. Any suggestions I have re paired the phone several times.

I believe the car disables access to the handset phonebook when the car is in motion.

You have to be stopped to access the phone book. You can store frequently used numbers in the vehicle phone book. I think it's called vehicle phone book. Your owners manual covers this topic.

^ +1. This is also true to many other functions within the car, such as blue tooth enabling.
Example: a friend of yours jumps into the car and wants his music to be paired throughout the car, you'd need to pull over and come to a stop in order to do this.

You only have to stop to start the process, by the way, and the car does not have to be in park. You can start it at a light and finish while driving (well, how about while riding).

Thanks for the replies than makes sense now that you pointed it out cause I never remember using it while driving. Just seems to defeat the whole purpose of going hands free. Most people will access the phone book on their hands set myself included , not as safe. I will store the most common ones in the vehicle but I have like a billion contacts.
