I just picked up a 2011 G37 sport coupe. It has the Bose system without Nav. The manual states you can set up a USB flash drive with multiple levels of folders (up to 8) but for some reason the display in the car only shows the folders at the lowest level.

For example I created the following; top folder "Rock", next folder down "Band Name", below that "Album 1" then within that a bunch of MP3s. However in the car all I see is the folder "Album 1" and the MP3s within it. If I put the USB drive in my 2012 Hyundai Elantra with Nav it displays the entire folder structure and lets me navigate up and down throughout it.

Is there something wrong with my G or is that the way its suppose to work? The manual states that folders without MP3s are not displayed so I put an MP3 within each folder at each level however there was no change.

 

I had the same problem when I first got my G. Documentation doesn't make sense, but the USB drive only shows the lowest level folder, which is usually the album. It's the tradeoff of using a USB drive, but I think they should improve it... Like their navigation, which sucks... for $10 you can have 16 GB of music. I have one in every car...

 

I have a 2012 and the music box was eliminated midyear 2012.

I have both a USB thumb drive and an I Pod.

Sadly I found much the same experience trying to use mine in a newly acquired '11 g37. It's annoying that it'll read a 64gb drive, but only enumerate 255 directories. It won't find half the music with more folders than that. I need to split them up on many fobs because a developer couldn't think of a number bigger than 255.

As well, it seems to sort the folders by the order added, which is quite annoying. It seems to randomly ignore much of my mp3's id3 tags for some reason. Really quite annoying, they need to fire the old man that writes the code for this, and has never used winamp or heard of an mp3 in 20 years.

The iphone itself transfers the info to the player it has in its database from itunes and apple's online db of metadata. I still won't use itunes or an ipod, it's almost as annoying to use as any windows ce based platform, only with less option.

So yeah, interested in a prodigy one, even though it is ce based. Really rather they make a modern android counterpart using 4.0 or up.

Mean time - I make directories /music/$artist - $year - $album/$artist - $track - $song.mp3, and it works ok, except it doesn't always play by that. CDs play out of order, and it's damn annoying still. I was hoping to check with a dealer to see if there's an update that they ever fixed it. I'm betting no.

Gonna try making id3v1 and v2 tags to see if it's too dumb to read one or another, need to find something to sync them. Never found anything good.
