Nav to non nav downgrade

Hey all,

First I'm new, second I tried to do a search and didn't find what I was looking for so here goes-

I have a '09 g37 x with Bluetooth, nav, and rear camera and Bose system. I'm starting to understand that this stereo is a pain in the ****. Since I want to upgrade most likely to the prodigy system I have some questions. Currently you cannot add the prodigy system to the existing nav unit. Therefore I'm thinking about downgrading the head unit to a non nav system. In doing so does the non nav unit have plug in play-

Bluetooth, with steering wheel controls

Rear camera input

And is it overall more or less the same harness?

I've been told by the dealership that all the push start and key information runs through the headunit,is this true and what are the risks of swapping the unit out?

In the end I would like to upgrade the whole out of date system, while keeping the functionality of the oem setup, and with as few external dongles and attennas as possible. The iPod integration is cumbersome, and would like more functionality. At least to access Siri on voice command. Bluetooth streaming Is not a must as you loose quality, but this iPod harness is atrocious. Any help, suggestions etc is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Bish

I think the answer here (without meaning to sound vague) is that you can do pretty much anything if you've got the money. It's definitely not going to be cheap. But if you can find the right audio specialist they can make it work. There is a guy on here who updated his G from non nav to nav, and the process was very in depth. The write is on still on here if you want a sort of reference....

Like awightguy said, anything is possible with money. I've recently upgraded my 09 nav to a 2010 nav. The harnesses and pinouts were completely different. See other people go from non-nav to nav, I have to imagine you can from nav to non-nav. You're going to need the FSM for your car and probably the wiring harness from your car, only the non-nav one. Swapping something like this isn't for the faint of heart, you can really screw your car up. If you plan it out and make sure all the pinouts are the same, you should be good.

Its definitely possible you'll need to get a dash wiring harness that matches the non Nav head unit you get. You'll then need to do a comparison of both versions of the car and start splicing in all the new harnesses. I wrote the DIY to go from non Nav to nav....you'll be splicing a good 40-60 wires if I remember correctly. Next to nothing is plug n play when making the switch
