Blendmount/Wiretap Install Question

Has anyone installed a blendmount with the rj11 wiretap on a 2011 G37 Sedan? I am trying to install but the leads on the wiretap are not fitting into the mirror molex plug? I've tried every which way but it appears the wiretap plug ends are too big to fit in with the existing wire. Has anyone else that installed a blendmount have this same issue? If so did you figure out a fix? Thanks in advance for any help!

I just did one of these a few weeks ago. The molex connectors in the recent G37 cars is very tight.

Hopefully you have the wire tap from Blendmount. It is a little easier than the one you get from Escort.

What I did is find a very small finishing nail. I pushed this into the molex to create a little more room. When I pulled the nail out, the wiretap, still needed a firm push (use needle nose pliers), but the wiretap prong fit then, and were held securely.

I did get it from blendmount direct. I'll give that a try and see if it works. I was thinking of forcing something in there but was afraid to break the plug or damage the wire at its connection point. If you've done it I'll give it a try. Thanks for the information.

Diver,

Just push the nail into a corner of the molex connector that you need to place a wiretap. That way the nail isnt damaging the wire that is already in the molex.

I wonder if our plug is the same? Mine is so tight. Even putting a small finishing nail doesn't see like it would work but I am still gonna try. See picture. Also did you tap the gold or silver wire?

I just gave it a shot with the smallest nail I could find and as I expected I can barely get the nail into the plug. Its just too tight!

Diver,

I don't know how small your nail is, but mine was very tight too. You are using the nail to create more room in there, so it should be very tight. I used a finishing nail, like th small nails used for paneling or baseboards.

I used a sewing needle with a pair of pliers to make room inside that plug.

As stated above, they are very tight. Ad ya....your plug is just like mine

I'm running the blendmount and mirror tap. Install was very easy... Zero issues. One of the pins was a snug fit. I did the install on a coupe however

I made my own connectors, with phone cord, but I had to get a hammer and flatten the connectors a little more to get them to fit.

When I did mine I used a small flathead screwdriver. Like the one that comes in a glasses repair kit. It created enough space without any damage. GL

Thanks for all the feedback! I am going to give it a try again. Which colored wire did you all tap if your plug looks the same as mine?

I believe brow is the switched power, black is ground, and grey is steady power. I went off brown i think.

Been a while, can't remember.
