My guess would be yes. It's like that purchasing tech stuff pay premium for bleeding edge (newest) but can save a few bucks for leading edge (not newest).
I'm probably going to get this one. Should be good enough for at least a few years.
The 2014 update probably wont show up until January or February so the 2013 update won't be outdated if you get it by June.
They did the same sale last year when I bought the 2012 update which added a few more streets in my hometown. It was worth the update, but I'll pass this year since it can be costly updating constantly.
As for my canuck friends, Infiniti shops will charge an hour for updates with the HDD version (08-09) which came to about 100 bucks.
Is it on sale because they're about to release a newer update?
No, the latest version was just released in April. They are released once per year. This is he newest version. It's not really on sale anyways. The update typically costa round $150. They just drove up the list price and offered a "sale".
i thought the DVD was d/c'd? that you could only purchase the activation code online and bring it into the dealer for install..?
The activation code only applies to certain models that came equipped with a hard drive based navigation system. Specifically the 2007 -2009 sedans and the 2008 - 2009 coupes. All other years/generations are DVD based navigations.

Bought the update last year, installed it on the G, then tried on the EX, wouldnt work.
The first DVD is coded for your individual NAV ID.
This is why I won't be buying it. My '12 G and '11EX have the same system, and it should work for both. They just want to make sure you won't re-sell the discs after you buy them.
There has to be a way to crack that and make it work on more cars. Someone needs to upload the first disc so we can look at it and try to break that open.

It wont work, as I stated, the DVDs seem to be coded just for your NAV ID.

I don't think* the dvds are coded for your nav id. The way I think the copy protection works is the license key that is sent to you when purchases is some hashed value based on the nav unit id.
So what one would need to figure out is the encoding algorithm of the license key.
*The reason I believe that, is it would be cost prohibitive to mass produce these dvds based on an individual key.

You are correct, I forgot about the key they sent!!
The key allows the NAV to open up for upgrade!!
