Calling nav swappers

Hey guys, I've been doing some reading about guys on here doing older radios to the newer 2010+ nav systems. It looks like most write-ups, guys go from non-nav and non-bose to bose with nav. My current setup is an 09 bose with nav. I really want the BT streaming, iPod interface and newer screen on the 2010+ Gs. Since I'm going for bose and nav to newer bose with nav, I'm assuming its going to be an easier swap. Still not plug and play I know. Has anyone on here gone from older nav to newer nav? My parts list would be new screen, wiring harness and nav unit because I can reuse the dial controller and GPS. Thoughts, issues, concerns that you guys see?

Thanks

- Steven

Modme did that swap I think..'08 Nav to '10 Nav. It would be an easier swap because you already have most of the parts which didn't change from '08 - '12.

Bringing this back from the dead. I have all the pinouts for both 2009 and 2010 navs. Since the 09 came with the RGB and I don't believe the 2010s did, I have a question/concern.

Here is the 2010 M75 Connector - Display Unit:

Here is the 2009 M75 Connector - Display Unit:

Notice on the 09 there are 5 RGB pinouts and 2 AUX pinouts, but there are none on the 2010. I'm assuming that these 7 pins are rendered useless in the new system and don't need to be swapped. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks

you'll need a new face plate as well...

But some of the pins on the newer GPS system goes straight to the av unit instead of the screen...Plus the New Gps touch screen is High Reso and uses a RGB plug which looks like this: Look on the new Av unit with the RGB (brown connector)

Goodluck finding an RGB cable without having to buy the entire dash harness, I needed all the radio connectors so buying the entire dash harness set made sense for me....it would be a shame to have to buy that for 1 cable

There will be a bunch of wires that will not be use anymore. It's been a while since i've done this. The best way to do it is to compare the wiring diagrams between 2009 and 2010 and change the wires as necessary.

The gps antenna, backup camera, microphone, navi controls, radio faceplate can all be reused. You will need to remove the camera control unit in the trunk and rewire the camera directly to the new navi system. You can use existing wires and repin them. However, you will need a GVIF cable from screen to navi unit. Will also need the USB connector.

Hi Modme, that's for the post. I have all the proper connections, wires, etc. I'm just curious as to why I have to remove camera control unit. There are pinouts on both 09 / 10+ of course they'd have to be (re-pined). Can you explain that a little further and also what wires to run where (if you can remember).

Thanks

In the older navigation system, the guidance lines on the backup camera are overlayed by the camera control unit. In the 2010+ models, the navigation AV unit overlays the guidance lines. Thats why you need to remove the camera unit.

So I've been going back and fourth with modme about this swap and once again I'm stumped. The AV Comm (H/L) wires and the camera control unit. PINs 91/75 of 2010 and PINs 50/51 of 2009 are good. PINs 92/76 of 2010 and PINs 48/49 don't make sense where they should map to.

If you look at the pics below, you can see where the AV comm lines to into and out of the camera control unit and connect to the steering angle sensor. The 2010 is not like that.

My first thought was to cut and tap pins 17/18 & 20/19 respectively which could work, but then I can't use the steering angle sensor anymore. Alternatively, I could leave the camera unti connected and just use it as a "pass through" to the steering angle sense.

I've bother modme enough via PM, so I thought I'd ask the board itself. I figured out all the other wires (with modme's help) and these are the last wires I need. If anybody could shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

- Steven

I saw your PM but didnt get a chance to reply. Like you said, you can connect 17/18 and 20/19 together. Dont worry about all the wires going from steering angle sensors to the camera control unit. You dont need those anymore. The steering angle sensor has its own set of CAN data lines. If you look in the 2008 manual BCS page 83, the steering angle sensor has terminals 1 and 2 connected to Data lines. They just chose to omit that in the AV wiring diagram. Hope this helps.

*Bump*

So this weekend (now) I'm doing the swap and I've hit a wall with the camera control module. I see the connector (CCM side), but not the camera side. I see if the wiring diagram it does some transitions from connector B243 to B66, etc all the way until M305 (Camera side). My problem is, I can't find connector B243 (closet connector to CCM). Please guys, if anyone out there can help me I'd really REALLY appreciate it.

Thank you

- Steven

Why do you need the camera side? You should tap the wires from the camera control unit harness.
