Traffic Info On Nav System

I find that the traffic info on the Nav map is pretty useless much of the time. I often sit in traffic where the map shows all green, but Google Maps on my iPhone shows the backup.

I guess it's SiriusXM's problem and not an Inifiniti's, but I was wondering if other people have noticed the same thing. I don't like fooling with my phone in the car even if I'm not moving very fast, so it would be nice if it worked properly. I also wonder why Google gets better data than SiriusXM.

I don't have it anymore because XM Sirius pissed me off, but it is better ins some cities than others. If you live in one of the markets with more accurate info you are lucky. If you live everywhere else, it sucks. And yes, this is an XM Sirius deficiency, not Infiniti's.

I live in the DC area, not sure if that's a factor. The one thing I do like about the service is that it seems pretty accurate about construction traffic, like closed lanes, closed ramps etc, which Google Maps doesn't tell you. With the amount of highway construction going on around here it can be pretty handy.

What is Waze?

Agreed, xm traffic is useless in NYC area.

+1 on google maps & Waze. Waze is a smartphone community app that display waze user speed and allows user to report traffic/accidents..etc.

Also, trapster is another good app, alerts you of red light camera, speed trap, school zone, police hang out..etc

I got a pending $40 credit on my account XM account. At one point they offered me 5 months for $10. After that came and went I told them their service was rather useless as it only covered interstates and not surface streets or state highways. Told them I'd consider it, but at a rate no higher than $2/month after taxes. So they computed what the discount should be (off the regular price) for a year and applied it. The service never renewed though, so not a big loss.

I usually check googlemaps/waze before heading somewhere just to make sure. In chicago, the precious few hours when the expressways actually move at speed are few and far between. Anyone that's lived here for any amount of time can tell you when it's rush hour, so having traffic on the nav is a bit pointless.

It has worked fairly well for me but I hardly drive the car!

Google and Waze is definately the way to go! I still use my garmins in the Jeep though. Google doesn't have the offroad stuff down yet like the topo maps with garmin.

Often times, the nav traffic is delayed. You're better off with updated info listening to the traffic channel.

Was debating about adding $6.99 a month package for both Traffic and Travel Link because I feel that I should take advantage of it in my car but I always use Google/Waze and my phone for traffic and weather.

I have traffic and weather, the weather is great to have. It helps keep my car out of the rain. Live weather maps is nice. Traffic so so but if I have the capability I figure I might as well have it. My wife wants me to get rid of it since we hardly drive the car.

sigalert.com (or phone app) is the way to go if you're in the LA vicinity

When I bought my car a year ago last Christmas, I negotiated a year of XM free. My subscription expired in January and when I called to cancel, they offered me two months free so what the heck. In all the time that Ive had the traffic update service, Ive never found it to be accurate. It skews my estimated arrival time by over 20+ minutes when the nav uses traffic info to compute travel time and its constantly 30 minutes or so behind the traffic updates and accident reports. All in all, Id have to say the feature is less useful than a clock that doesn't run; at least the clock shows the correct time twice a day.

@Absinthe,
I agree for the most part. As I mentioned before, the one useful thing is construction info like ramp closures, lane closures, etc. There's been a lot of that around here for the last couple of years, and maps with traffic flow info don't tell you that kind of thing. The estimated arrival times are always off for me too.
