Audio, Video & Electronics Post questions, reviews, and other general info about the G's Nav, sound system, satellite radio or aftermarket stereos

Are there drop in speaker upgrades to stock system?

Gear wise is probably going to be unknown to most, but it consists of:

Zu Soul Superfly
Decware Torii mk3
Audion Premier w/ Phono
Kuzma Stogi s/ Stabi S
SAE 1000E & 1000LT
Bolder Modded Squeezebox Touch & Bolder PSU w/ Bybee Music Rails
Bolder Modded Eastern Electric Minimax DAC
APC S-15 Conditioner
Bybee Purifier conditioner
Wywires cabling throughout, except on amp which has Sablon Audio uber Robusto (hybrid between Robusto & Grand Corona).

Miscellaneous Gik & Vimac treatments along with nos tubes and tweaks I'm likely omitting.

To be honest I'm not familiar with any of that, the music nor the gear. I was curious what kind of music. I'm not an audiophile but I like what I like, a lot. You mentioned 3 hours a night.... do you just kind of veg out and listen to music, or do you have it on in the background while you do something else? I'm really intrigued by this.

99% of my music consumption is in the car, the rest is on cheap iPod earbuds (I know, I know) when I'm on a flight or very occasionally on a small JVC iPod dock while I'm cleaning around the house or something. And since I got the G, my iPod has been permanently relocated to my center console instead of in the house.

With that kind of setup that he has he would be laughed at if it was used as ambiance.

A little off topic as I don't want to replicate my home 2-channel experience in my car by any means, but I'm usually plopped down in my sweet spot perusing the audio forums (and less so my other hobby forums) often with a stiff drink in hand while I listen. It is pretty active listening. As Racer X implies, a trait of a good rig is that it commands your attention. It won't be relegated to background noise.

I'm not a music buff, but I listen with my heart and seek to be emotionally swept by what I've got on. Right now that's Gillian Welch's Harrow and Harvest.

For an example of my tastes--in the last year I saw the following live shows:

- LCD Soundsystem (twice, including farewell)
- Arcade Fire (msg)
- The Deers (williamsburg)
- Roger Waters - The Wall (Nassau Colliseum--a friggin' spectacle!!)
- TV On the Radio (Radio City)
- Deer Hunter (terminal 5??? don't recall I was a zombie for this one)

Probably missing something, but a snapshot.

Back on topic: I made an appointment for the 28th to get my front passenger side speaker swapped. I think they need to put some dynamat in those doors too or something...

Dynamat for sure. That's funny you say that. This is my second week with the 08 G35 and although it's pretty good for a stock system AND the doors close with an solid thump, I am itching to take those panels off and treat the doors.
