Stealthcord question

i was planning on making my own, but i heard that not having an inline fuse on it is a bad idea. is this true? if so, why?

yup, used an old telephone line, soldering machine, etc... I used the following link for reference:

DIY Invisicord/Stealth Cord & Radar Hardwire - Nissan Armada Forum: Armada & Infiniti QX56 Forums

The only thing I did different was the way the wires were plugged in the back. If you follow the method the above link uses, the radar detector will be on all the time. I honestly forgot which wire i hooked up where (even though there is only three in the back of the mirror). I think i did this...The ground wire goes according to the link. The power wire, however, that goes to the other connection, not the one as stated on the link. So now, every time I turn the car on and off, my passport does the same.

Yeah, thats exactly what I did. I simply went on youtube and followed the stealth cord tutorial they have on a G. Trust me, its the best mini-mod you will do on the interior of your car. I hated having that long wire that came with my 9500ix. Just be sure to paint the cord once you done, that is, if its not a black cord you are using.

Be patient, sometimes its a little tricky. It tends to form a bubble when applying the alloy/aluminium (what ever it is). Make sure you heat shrink it afterwards.

You don't need an in-line fuse, just tap off your powered mirror. I made mine and it's been on the car for over a year with no issues whatsoever.
