Hi all,

This is likely going to show off just how little I know about car electronics. Anyway, I'm thinking about getting this:

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?...354#featureTab

but I don't know if it will work with a 2009 G37 and most embarrasingly, if it does work, where is this data port they speak of in the sedan? (yeah I really know that little about it.)

Thanks!

hmmm...I'm sure you can get it to work (with $$ anything can be made to work), but I don't know how easy it will be. most of the car-puters I've seen have been displayed through the AUX port (red/white/yellow inputs)

The diagnostic port they are talking about I would assume is the OBD II port, which in the coupe is on the bottom right of the steering wheel

It actually works via blue tooth to the Garmin GPS I already have. I'm mostly interested in it because it's a toy and has some interesting guages I can't readily see right now. Not that these will currently mean much too me, but hey we all start somewhere.

I just didn't know what the car interface was & where to find it. But I'm pretty sure ODB II was on the list, I think I just plug it in then. I'll have a look around my steering wheel then next time I'm in the car for the port.

Thanks!

I like the concept. Is there a similar device which would send the diagnostics data in realtime to an iPod app? I'm not going to buy a gps just see the data (and I don't need the gps anyway), and there's no way for the data to be shown on the car display without major hacks.

Did some searches, came up with these -

DevToaster - Rev
PLX Kiwi Wifi

OT-2 OBD-II WiFi Interface for PCs and Smartphones
free app - LogWorks (Sports)

Cost $150-200 for the wireless transmitter+software

Also found this - ebay link
Its a Bluetooth OBD reader, I have no idea what software its compatible with but its a lot cheaper.

Does anyone use OBD on our cars?

if you're talking about the OBD II port, then anyone who has tuned their car in any way (UpRev, Cobb, Hypertech, dyno tune) all use the OBD port
