2010 Burr-Brown DAC deleted
Dynaudio supplies the drivers. I believe B&O actually make the HU, but it is not labelled or advertised as such. That was my point. And yes, the Dynaudio drivers are excellent--that was my other point. So yes, I am an audiophile--what are you saying that suggests otherwise?
sorry not sure how that came out that way. there wasnt an OUNCE of sarcasm in that thread...i was infact supporting your statement by saying CDs to my ears, sounds better than most digital sources. and was impressed about hte BB 24bit dac in the car, this isnt something i knew about before, hence its "news to me", and i wanted to confirm thats what it is, a true 24 bit bb dac in its own sense, or is it a 1 bit dac with 24 bit resolution that is propped up by the burr brown name. you know? typical OEM stuff.
i wanted a confirmation on that point.
i am a car audio installer, and a long time competitor in IASCA, infact i have my own SQ comp team here in cali
what i mean by "that explains a lot" means...
the fact that there is a burr-brown DAC built into the stock bose HU explains why i was able to get a great resulting using the stock HU in the G, having built a G sedan last year that won its class twice in competition, and having just finished this car:

it explains a lot about the sound i was able to obtain

OK, we are on the same page. I was impressed with the sound, too, despite the rest of the Bose crap in there. So that is why I am concerned about what they are using for 2010...but still unaware how we find out how good or bad it is? Obviously, we don't even know all the details of the Burr-Brown unit.
yeah, in my tuning process of htat car, the resolution of the unit surprised me, prolly one of hte best stock HUs i have used
and with the RTA, as i found out that in that thread, the bose amp is what does most of the crappy work.
being a former big time volvo guy and a moderator of volvo forums, we in the volvo world knows well that the P2 cars and on have the avaiable Dynaudio system, and i have personally installs into a few and inspected the drivers. its a mix bag, some are true dyn quality almost, though i dont think quite up to the usual dyn caliber from their higher line aftermarket stuff. but overall, the drivers are solid. unfortuantely, the amp pushing them and the rest of the headunit and basic design still leaves IMO a lot to be desired, surely its one of hte best sounding stock systems out there, but i think those drivers can definetly be better if utilized in a better overall aftermarket system.
basiclaly, all the stock systems, good and bad, to me, have similar issuees:
1. too many spekaers that can cause phase and cancellation issues
2. making too mslal of a speaker play out of its confort zone, or the other way around, too big of a sepaker corssed too high
3. crappy quality crossovers used in the signal chain
4. crappy amps that are subpar comapred to the rest of the system
5. active equalization implemented to try and protect the stock spekaer's life expectancy.
6. lack of a true good subwoofer to provide adequate and realistic low end reinforcement.
