Only works for CD's and no one listens to CD's much anymore. Store bought CD's that is.

the bluetooth is 10x better....

it's almost like the parrot system where it repeats the voice name for your phonebook from your compatible cell phone.

bluetooth streaming audio is cool -- been playing around w/ pandora on it

True--but if you care at all about sound quality, then you would. Which is why I laugh at the people investing huge amounts into fancy car audio all to push a crap-quality compressed files played through a two-bit device... It makes no sense to me, but clearly the general mass market is not about audio quality. The G was a bit different--until 2010. Now it has joined the lowest common denominator crowd...

I havent used a cd since i bought an ipod. And now that i discovered i can use the headphone jack on my HTC HERO and plug into the audio cables in the center console, and then use my phones music application that allows me to stream online music, with over 10,000 plus music stations, im glad i didnt renew XM now haha

I believe Clarion makes the headunit for Bose/Infiniti. Bose makes/sells the drivers.

The removal of the DAC concerned me too, but you need to realize that just because the current generation system has the 24-bit DAC doesn't mean the system is great. It is Bose after all. Don't get me wrong, I think this is a pretty decent stock system (maybe second best to the stock Lexus Mark-Levinson?), but its no audiophile setup. The weakest link is still the Bose drivers.

I agree with you marc, some people don't get that mp3's lack dynamic range
sure there are some mp3's that sound good and better then others
but audiophiles can tell the difference

it still has the studio on wheels sound system created into the car.... I doubt anyone will really here the clarity difference in the 2010 compared w/ the 2008 or 2009's.

and how many of us still listens to burnt CD's instead of an iPod?

I listen exclusively to original CD's. But obviously I am a minority. You are right, if you are listening to inferior source material like crappy compressed MP3's, you would not be able to tell the difference. I am sure that's why Infiniti chose to divert whatever extra cost there was to the Burr-Brown into more USB and portable device hook-up options. Fortunately I can still control my HOME audio system and don't have to go with a mass market approach there!

whats an ipod?

i have about 80 percent original CDs 20 percent burnt, for cds, i go to a used cd market in SF and buy them at about 2 dollars per

the difference to me between IPOD, even at uncompressed, and CDs is just a bit high.

wait wait, this is news to me, the stock HU has a true 24bit bb DAC in it? not just a BB name slapped on a 1 bit dac 24 bit resolution piece?

really....wow....that explains a lot of things

You are most certainly in the minority. A compressed file is NOT inherently inferior to a wave file. OGG, WMA, FLAC, AAC all have lossless compression which is this case will NOT be the limiting factor. There's just loads of noise, inferior drivers, bose 'processing'. These do not add up to a high end listening environment.

I am missing something in your sarcasm...? Are you saying the existing Burr-Brown is marketing bull****? I would not doubt this as 99% of stock audio labelling is marketing crap (I am in a Volvo with one of the best stock sound systems available...they do [did I guess, now] the sound for Aston Martin and Jaguar, too...and the best part is that it is no-name). I am just not sure if you are saying that is really the case, or not? What lot of things does it explain?

Marc

sorry not sure how that came out that way. there wasnt an OUNCE of sarcasm in that thread...i was infact supporting your statement by saying CDs to my ears, sounds better than most digital sources. and was impressed about hte BB 24bit dac in the car, this isnt something i knew about before, hence its "news to me", and i wanted to confirm thats what it is, a true 24 bit bb dac in its own sense, or is it a 1 bit dac with 24 bit resolution that is propped up by the burr brown name. you know? typical OEM stuff.

i wanted a confirmation on that point.

i am a car audio installer, and a long time competitor in IASCA, infact i have my own SQ comp team here in cali

what i mean by "that explains a lot" means...

the fact that there is a burr-brown DAC built into the stock bose HU explains why i was able to get a great resulting using the stock HU in the G, having built a G sedan last year that won its class twice in competition, and having just finished this car:
https://www.myg37.com/forums/audio-v...-170-pics.html

it explains a lot about the sound i was able to obtain

Uhh, Marc, you call yourself an audiophile? Dynaudio makes Volvo's audio. HARDLY "no-name".

Dynaudio makes some of the best home audio speakers on the planet. I know, I have a pair of Dynaudio temptations about 20ft from here!
