changing sub boxes

Hey guys! Sorry I really dont know much about subs/boxes and such. I currently have a 12" kicker CVR in a vented box and a Kicker 400.1 Amp. The box is taking up way too much room in my trunk. If I went with another box, what is the process to transfer the sub from one box to another? I mean, I have never seen inside a box and how it is wired to the sub. Any help would be great. Thanks. Also if anyone knows where I can get a custom box or a smaller box for a G37 Sedan. Thanks

First off you need to make sure you are putting your sub in a box with the correct amount of air space. Too much or too little can have big affects on how it sounds. Taking a sub in and out of a box isn't too difficult. Theres usually just some screws around the outside diameter of the sub then you just have 2 wires + and - that you have to disconnect. What box do you have right now? Is it custom or just a square box? There are a few companies that make custom boxes for the G. The zenclosures box i think is the one that fits in the driver side corner area of the trunk and looks flush and OEM.

The box it is in right now is just a normal vented box. I mean it sounds great, but just takes up way too much space. I believe you are talking about the 4080 box, unfortunately they do not make one for a Sedan, otherwise I would of gotten that in a heart beat. I cant seem to find a box that Zenenclosures sells just for one 12". How do I know what kind of specs the box should be? Will this be on the Kicker website? Any certain website that will have this kind of info?

should be on the kicker website or if you still have the paperwork that came in the box w/ the sub. the cvr isnt a very demanding sub so the air space doesnt need to be dead on. just relatively close to the specs required. if you cant find the info on it PM me and ill look it up at my shop (i work in car audio). as far as boxes go, if ya cant find a prefab box specifically for your car youll need to get a custom one. fiberglass preferably to safe ya room and go for oem look. good luck. and wakeboarder was dead on about the sub swap from box to box

Didn't realize you were a sedan. Best bet then would probably be to check out some audio shops about getting a custom box built. As far as air specs here are the numbers straight from kickers website for the CVR 12"

Mounting Depth (IN.,CM) 6 5/16, 16.1
Mounting Cutout (IN.,CM) 11 1/8, 28.3
Min Rec Sealed Box Volume (CU. FT., Liters) 1, 28.3
Max Rec Sealed Box Volume (CU. FT., Liters) 4.6, 130
Min Rec Vented Box Volume (CU. Ft., Liters)** 1.75, 49.6
Max Rec Vented Box Volume (CU. Ft., Liters)** 2.25, 63.7

That should actually work pretty well. Cause dont you only have 1 sub? Those specs say .85cu inch per chamber, I'm assuming thats for the one posted with 2 chambers. So if you only have one sub then you should actually have double that space which would be plenty. Maybe send them a message and see if they know the actual specs for a single 12in box.

Thanks wakeboard. You have been a lot of help. As you can probably tell, I am pretty much a noob when it comes to subs/amps. I will let you know what they say, and hopefully you can give me some more insight!

Hey Wakeboard, I got a couple replies, and I am not sure which box will be the best fit. Any help would be great.

For the previous enclosure: The guy said he can decrease the size of the interior space to whatever I wanted, but I think I need a bigger space for the Kicker sub...right?

How would this box work?

Thanks guys!

Looks about the same as the first one. The first one is .85cu/ft per chamber and the second is .8cu/ft per chamber. But they both have 2 chambers and you only need 1. So if they make it for 1 sub using the entire box that would be 1.6cu/ft. So that would be ok.

Yea I noticed that, the main thing I was wondering was the mounting depth...

Kicker spec says 6 5/16 and the specs of the box says 7.31. Does it matter if there is more space. Sorry for the newbie questions... I really do appreciate all your help!

I'm pretty sure the mounting depth is just how deep the box needs to be for the sub to fit. In that case you should be fine. Doesnt really matter if there is extra space behind the sub as long as the air space is in spec.
