Nav Traffic.

Hi,

I got a new G37 sedan 2 months ago. When I first got it, I didn't care much about the XM Radio and XM Nav Traffic, but it's nice to see the traffic report, so I go to Settings > Traffic, and it says XM NavTraffic is required or something like that.

Do I have to put in a code for trial use or something? Help please

I am in Houston and I think the NavTraffic is available in the area.

Thanks.

if I understand correctly you need XM to have real time traffic - I loved the feature so subscribed to XM and love the real time traffic being in the Los Angeles Area. It works great and will reroute you around a trouble spot - show you up to date incidences etc. I think it's worth the money. So a search on here for XM suggestions I think there is one about getting a deal on the year subscription. I already did it before joining the forum so haven't actually read it - good luck!

Thanks mrc. I like that feature too!

There is a 3-month trial period that comes with any new Infiniti purchase. I just don't know whether I need to activate it somehow...

YOu need to call their 1-800 number and give them your radio id (on channel 1) to activate your 3 month trial period. After that it will shut off and you need to pay.

Thanks WhosUrBuddiee.

So I called to activate my trial period. The rep sent out a refreshed signal and told me to leave it on channel 1 for 20 minutes. So I did that and got the traffic info after 10 minutes. Wohooo! It looks pretty nice though!

I need to find out if I can get only the NavTraffic for a smaller subscription fee. Has anybody just got the NavTraffic, but not the XM Radio? How much are you paying?

One note: the rep kept telling me to signup for paid service to lock in the discounted rate and avoid activation fee. I told her I'd like to see how it worked before I made the decision but she kept on insisting. I did not like that.

You can get the NavTraffic for like $6/month without the music/talk XM channels.

I think you can haggle to $5 a month. At least I think that's what I was offered before. I still turned it down though, I pay $30 a month for my iPhone data plan, might as well put it to use for traffic.

I can access traffic info thru my Blackberry as well but it's nice to have the nav incorporate traffic data into calculating routes.

When I put in my radio ID on their website, it showed a 3.99/month for NavTraffic Premium if I want to continue. I think it's a great deal at that price. Am I missing something here?

Wow, that is a great deal. Make sure there's no hidden charges, like subscription to XM radio too.

I love the traffic alert feature but I do have a love-hate relationship with one aspect of it. When going to a detail screen on a particular traffic problem/accident on a freeway this screen will tell you where both the problem starts and where it ends and in what direction. This often takes two screens so I have to press the down button for the next screen. The problem is I have to be completely stopped to un-dim the second screen. In traffic one usually creeps along at about 2-5 mph so the down button stays dimmed until I’m completely stopped for at least 3-5 seconds. Try stopping for 5 seconds and the guy behind may will honk his horn like I fell asleep at the wheel.

I’ve often wanted to yell back and say, “Hey jerk, you can stick that horn where the sun doesn’t shine, or if you’ll just wait another second I’ll tell you where this logjam ends!”

^ ouch LOL. The navtraffic never did help me much, so after the 3 months i just let it cancel. I do have a cousin that works at the florida deparment of transportation, so i can just give her a call and get a update on my route home.

How are you using the reroute? I've tried it by pressing the traffic detour button but always get the message, no faster route found. It never reroutes me. I have a garmin, used in another car, and it always reroutes and finds faster ways around traffic.
