iphone connection not working

I just bought my car a few weeks ago. Beat the CA sales tax! Anyways, I plugged in my iphone (16GB) 1st generation into the car ipod connector and the phone displays This "accessory is not made to work for the iPhone". Is this problem with the phone or car ipod connector? Is there a solution?

Thanks

I think theirs an adapter out there that will make it work, I'm not sure if you'll be able to send or receive calls also, My 3G iphone works perfectly when playing music from the connector, but i prefer my ipod.

my 1st gen plays music with no problem when attached. It even rings through the speakers when I get a call or plays pandora music.

It's not a problem if it's working.

Just press "No" at the prompt screen and it should work normally. It should charge too if it's 1st gen.

It might be 2nd gen, but definitely not 3G. I tried pressing "No", but the car would not pick it up.

Only a 3G Iphone is the second generation.
and, it is supposed to play music regardless of the generation. (also ignore the warning message too.)
