You mean the bulky size of the Bels and Escorts not the V1.

Size (from smallest to largest):

Valentine One -> 16.20 cu. in.
Bel RX65 Pro -> 16.33 cu. in.
Bel STi -> 16.33 cu. in.
Escort 8500 X50 -> 18.95 cu. in.
Escort 9500i -> 21.72 cu. in.

Weight (from lightest to heaviest):

Valentine One -> 181.5g (6.40 ounces)
Beltronics RX65 Pro -> 236.6g (8.35 ounces)
Escort 8500 X50 -> 253.7g (8.95 ounces)
Escort 9500i -> 269.2g (9.49 ounces)
Beltronics STi Driver -> 291.6g (10.29 ounces)

The Escort 9500i is the largest in size and the Beltronics STi Driver is the heaviest. The Valentine One is the smallest and lightest radar detector of the top 5 radar detectors made today.

The market has apparently changed. It honestly used to be just the Valentine 1 and Passport 8500 for consideration.

I will add that any of the top ones are probably fine because the fact is that police use VACAR and other measures of timing that cannot be detected by radar detectors. The key is picking your spots if you are going to exceed the speed limit and being aware.

I do find them handy for trips which you are not aware of the surroundings.

What you recommend as the smallest unit for a reasonable price. I dont want to put a grand into a radar detector. I simply want to have the smallest unit possible that is sensitive and can be concealed as much as possible in the G37.

The key is still to be aware when driving because police use a lot of other methods that radar detectors do not detect.

I do have an 8500 X50 at the moment. I have only been using it in my car for trips as I hate the cord but I am going to play around wiht that unit and see if I can effectively hide it. I dont mind only seeing the disply of the remote hooked into the power adaptor.

I missed this post originally. I found it to be the same as the V1. I preferred the readout options myself.

You can go to a lot of sites that are obviouslly biased and find that either the x50 or V1 is better. They are about the same IMO.

The 9500i is interesting because it uses GPS technology to warn you of speed traps.

It would be so nice for the integrated NAV to warn you of approaching speed traps.

I received 3 tickets with my Valentine one, two with my 8500 and one with my 8500X50. I have stopped using radar detectors for the past 2 years and have not had a ticket. I still drive exactly the same.

radar

I just installed a new Escort 8500 x50. Its not hidden, but its behind the rear view mirror and plugged into the mirror with a 6 inch wire. No hanging cables or need for cigarette lighter connection. I can hardly see it from the driving position.

I am going to play with my x50 and figure out to hide it the best when on trips.

I now wish I would have gotten the blue display since my car is blue and the speedo has a blue hue to it.

My last car was red with red lights on the dash.

I just dont understand why it is 50 bucks more for the x50 with the blue display. The units are identical except for the display color.

Nice job! That looks really great. How hard is it to take out as I believe the 9500ci has firmware updates espcially for speed traps. Maybe you can take a lptop out and update it that way..

Thanks.

It has a port for a usb cable that is accessible under the dash (laptop is the key, or a pc in the garage...). The database is updated fairly often. It has speed cameras and red light cameras and warns you ahead of them (warning time depends on how fast you are going).
