Never had a problem here and have left my iPod in the car for over a week, hooked up, and then got it directly out of the car without turning the car on and it was at full charge. I believe when you turn the car off, it pauses, and then the iPod will go into sleep mode, thus preserving the charge.

OMG. You guys had me running to my car to get my Ipod. I have a 5th generation Ipod and this bugged me soo much about the car. I'm so happy to hear that there is fix. Upgrading my Ipod right now.

I let my girlfriend drive my old once. It resulted in her crushing my nano's screen in the power seat track and spilling Red Bull all over the console. It was the last time she drove my car. Needless to say, this wasn't an easy fix with no screen. My fix was to plug it into itunes and restore it, which deleted all the music, but restored it to factory settings. I downloaded the music again, and now it works fine. It stays charged and turns off as it should. I guess the "auto off" function wasn't working.

hey it's all good man, as long as this thread helped someone....

lol ok, well I realized I'm the biggest dumbass around...I was playin with my ipod when i was on the treadmill at the gym, and guess what i noticed? The auto-sleep feature was turned OFF....as soon as I seen that, I started laughin to myself. Sure enough, I put the pod back in the car, used it normally, and now whenever i pull it out, it's got a nice full charge!!!

I don't think the 5th gens have the auto-off setting that can be changed.

*Unless it was added in a recent update*
