How to access back of the Head-Unit?

I'm trying to access the back of my head-unit (the wiring-harness in particular). I have the service manuals, but im not sure if im looking at the right pages. It seems to imply that I would need to take apart my center console etc... Is that true? Is there any easier way where I can simply get to that plug?
Any help would be appreciated!
