Midnight grill VS Painting grill

ditto. over the course of 2 hours, most of my time was spent on removing the bumper, then grill, masking off the chrome parts i wanted to keep, and waiting between coats to dry.

Krylon Fusion is the bomb for painting plastic. I've used it on parts in the past and the toluene in it make it actually dissolve into the plastic. <$10 a can. You have to buff it to make it perfectly smooth, but to make a midnight grill with just the interior black, I doubt you'd need nor want to. The texture it gives would be pretty cool. I'll post my pick next week when I actually do it.

I removed the bumper, then the grille, then the emblem. I masked off the top and bottom slots with painters tape. I cleaned the whole thing with rubbing alcohol then laid down my first (very light) coat of pasti dip. Then I gave it 1 hour to dry. Next I put down my second coat, this time a very thick one, and let it dry for 2 hours. I did 6 coats with two hour dry times in between.
Then I let it dry overnight and then did 3 clear coats with 6 hour dry times in between. I let it dry for a day and then put it back.

Haha, yeah I figured I didn't want to have to repaint it for awhile because of rock chips and stuff, and my headlights aren't coming back until Monday anyway so I decided to give it a real try.

Interesting to see that people haven't had much issue with paint jobs painting the grille.
The paint shop we use all the time didn't wanna touch it, claiming that "chrome" surface is hard to deal with and they can't warranty it because they've attempted it in the past and it starts chipping off sooner rather than later.
For some reason I can't for the life of me find a decent price on a midnight grille. Even at wholesale price direct from Infiniti our cost is almost $400. On ebay the best price I could find was $350.
