Steering Ratio

So...Since the G37's steering is electronic, would it be possible to modify the steering controller of the X to have the same steering ratio at the S? All the steering parts seem so be almost the same. Could it just need a reprogram?

It's not electronic. You would have to replace the rack.

My 2012 G37XS also needs the 14:7 to 1 ratio. I'm certain this would be the best improvement for my style of driving...needing more connected and responsive steering. Earlier posts from last year say that the G37XS from other years have included the sport ratio as OE. It also appears that the steering rack is different on the 2WD and that it probably would not fit the AWD.
I thinking that finding a new or remanufactured rack for a non 2012 G37XS could be the easiest fix for the our situation. I also think that a parts person or mechanic from Infiniti could offer more information and suggestions.

Zommerski,

I don't believe the xS sedan ever had the quick ratio steering. For sure my 2009 xS sedan didn't. xS Coupes might have the quick ratio; the coupe retains much more of the sport pieces on the xS.

Having owned both an xS and an S 6MT, I would say the steering ratio is only one part of what makes the S feel so much more nimble. The other big factors are tires and suspension. The xS (as stock) has poor A/S tires and a lot of understeer. You can put on better tires, springs and sway bars.

I have wider better tires, sways, and the GTSPEC rear lateral and lower tie braces. No body roll and the car sticks to the point that it requires so much effort and wheel rotation. It would be wonderful to speed it up.

Does anyone know if the G37XS Coupe sport steering rack will fit the G37XS sedan?
Thanks.

That does have the increased steering ratio, right? The racks are around $800.

I'm basing my question on earlier comments/advice about the G37S coupe retaining the sport steering ratio on the XS coupe model.
I think re-posting the question about "converting the G37XS sedan to the sport steering ratio of (14.7:1)" would be best. The Tech Area subforum is "brakes suspension and wheels".
