Question Winter performance tire recommendations

Bought an extra set of stock 19" rims for winter for my AWD Coupe . Looking for winter performance tires for the North East cold pavement. Not interested in snow tires as I have an SUV for that.

Size 225/45/19. Any recommendations?

Toyo Garritt's were a top choice last time I checked a few years ago..keep in mind lots of ppl complain about "performance" winter tires not being that great b/c ppl don't really use them for any kind of performance driving...for DD a Michilen XI3 is an excellent all round winter tire for these cars and may be a better choice for actual driving needs

I hear what you're saying, about having a SUV for winter conditions and wanting performance tires for your G on dry, cold pavement. But I'm going to give this opinion anyway: You will be deeply disappointed in your "performance snows". And when you actually use your G on snow & ice, you will be disappointed yet again. You're better off getting dedicated Snow & Ice tires, for safety and practicality, and then just wait it out until Spring.

That's my Western NY opinion. FWIW. Good luck.

The car may...may see 1-2 days of snow and ice. Just looking for the best tires I can get for cold and dry conditions. Got to make a decision soon.

For winter tires - I've been running Blizzak LM-60's since 2013 - before that Blizzak LM-25's since 2008. Both were great. I need to replace my LM-60's before the snow flies and for winter rims - I'm running 225/45R18's in front and 245/40/18's in rear (as opposed to my 19 inch set up in the summer). I've had the car for 11 winters and have never had any issues running either of these Blizzaks - in fact Ottawa, Canada gets lots of snow every winter. I've taken the car skiiing north through the mountains near Mont Tremblant Quebec - and have had no issues. Also when the pavement is dry because of the huge amounts of salt used in Ottawa (obscene amounts of salt - no wonder our cars rust so bad) these performance snow tires are a dream - I don't hear them like I do when driving "normal" snow tires on my other vehicle. Unfortunately, the LM-60's seem to be discontinued at a number of vendors I've called locally. Not sure if the LM001's are the equivalent replacements or not but they don't come in my rear sizing of 245-40R18. The Blizzak WS90 does come in my sizes but worried about things like road noise and sluggishness with those large ***** on the edges. Happy winter tire hunting!

I bought a new set of Blizzak LM-60 back in 2012 for my G, and I absolutely hated them. They sucked as snow tires, and they were no where near "high performance" on dry pavement. So when it was time to get new snows, I went with Michelin X-Ice, and dialed back aggressive driving behavior on dry pavement during the winter. For me it was the right choice, but opinions will vary.

Yes, Ottawa gets a lot of snow. So does Western NY.

Coincidentally to your comment, we vacationed in Mont Tremblant this summer. Small world.

I have the Pirelli sottozero 3s for my winter set and the dry grip is pretty impressive IMO. Much better then the old blizzaks I had on my s13.
