Summer/ winter tires vs all season/ track
I'm currently shopping for a g37 6mt coupe w/ the intention of DD 70 miles per day and 2-3 track days per summer. I'm a track noob and just want to tag along when my friends go and work on my driving. I'd like to keep the mods for the first couple years limited to wheels/ tires, brakes and oil cooler.
If I have two sets of wheels should I have.
Summer and winter tires
Track and all season tires.
I plan to drive the car in the winter but do have an F150 for when the snow gets deep. What would you guys do for casual winter use an casual track use?

normally, I'd say summer and winter for sure, but given that you have the truck, the Track and all season option seems like a better option if you actually get to the track 2-3 times in the years, i'd still get pretty aggressive all seasons though like the Michelin AS3s or something
Honestly if you're just learning to drive on the track, a good set of 300TW summers (and not your trackday special tire) should suffice. It will let you learn at lower limits, and teach you to react to car dynamics at a much more reasonable pace instead of forcing you to try and fully utilize a tire that you don't yet understand. You can then pick an all-season/winter of your choice.
Also, 70mi/day does get pretty rough. Do you have really severe winters where a true winter tire is required? All-seasons typically have better treadwear/life than a summer so that may factor into your choices. I do roughly 90mi/day, and I will go through a set of tires a year on summers. That being said, if you do burn through them in the first year and have a few days at the track under your belt, you can pick a tire that's better for your needs later.

If this was my only car I'd want winter tires for snow but I can get away with all seasons and drive the truck in the snow. And I agree my first few times out I wont need the most grippy tire so maybe I can delay getting a track set for a year or two. It will also depend on what wheels and tires the car I buy comes with.
