Hey guys, I am planning on using a separate set of wheels for autox, and just wondering what the effect will be if I drive to the event on my regular street wheels with TPMS, swap the wheels to race wheels without TPMS, and then after the event swap the wheels again. Am I going to have to reset some kind of code once I'm back on the regular set of wheels with TPMS installed?

 

No. While you run the wheels with no TPMS the yellow TPMS light on your dash will just stay on. When you put the old wheels on again it will automatically detect them and the light will be gone....no resetting involved.

 

Awesome. Thanks for the info! I'm going to setup the car for F Street with SCCA, and hopefully do well. Right now the car is running 19 inch coupe wheels, which aren't allowed by Street category rules, because they are wider than factory sedan wheels. I'm in the process of buying another set of stock sport package sedan wheels, so that will make the car class legal, and running RE71Rs will make it very fast too.

 

That sounds like a great set up, I'm running the coupe wheels in the summer but was thinking of switching to 18" sport wheel, i think they are 8.5" wide rim if I'm not mistaken. What size rubber are you running?

 

The Sport package sedan wheels are 7.5 in front and 8.5 in the back. Sport package coupe wheels are 8.5 in front and 9.0 in the rear. I'm running 245s front and 275s rear at the moment, and they fill it up quite nicely.

 

YOur Ride looks great on the Auto-x circuit. Sorry I meant what size RE71Rs are you going to run. The problem I was having with switching to the narrower rims was finding a good tire size for the 7.5/8.5 inch rims ...I'm currently running 245/285 and didnt want to give too much up.

 

I'm planning on doing 235 front and 255 rear. I am currently running Firestone Indy 500 tires on the 19s, so I'll probably actually gain grip, since these are 340 tw, and RE71R are 200 tw god mode tire. Everyone is running those on who is going fast.

 

TPMS light probably won't even come on if it's just for an afternoon. Mine usually takes a few days to come on when I swap to my winter set without TPMS. No adverse affects other than a little orange light.

 

Been running no TPMS for 5 years strong, but it used to be a nice life without the yellow light, I do miss it

 

A little 1/2" square of electrical tape will fix it, ask me how I know, lol.

Other than the light, does no TPMS have any other side effects? In my other car, no TPMS would prevent me from turning off stability control and other nannies.
