Michelin PSS, never again
Michelin PSS, never again
Well to make a long story short, Monday night I was turning onto the highway doing roughly around 35mph, front right tire blew out, car pulled hard to the left as I was still making my turn, hit the curb hard and ended up jumping it. Bent my ****ing rim.
This is now 3 out of 4 tires of Michelin PSS that were bought brand spanking new back in Dec 14'. I've driven at this point, a rough ballpark of around 8k miles. For those of you who may remember, I had both rear tires blow out in under 5k which Michelin did replace.
So before the responses come in, this is solely my opinion and my own past experiences.
For those that need to ask, yes I have F & R SPC camber kits. When the rears blew out, i was running roughly around -2 camber, but toes were always within spec. As for fronts, I would say the first 2500-3k miles I did not have camber kit installed. Camber wear did show, but nothing drastic by any means.
When installing the RJM pedal last week, my buddy noticed the wear was pretty significant and I was actually in the process of ordering new tires.
I get an alignment done about every 2-3 months as I have the Firestone lifetime one, last time I was in, which was only about a month and 1/2 ago and I was not notified at that time that the wear wires were poking through, the front I was running -1.2 and -1.4 iirrc and again toes in spec.
No matter what, going forward in my life, I will NEVER buy Michelin again.

Sorry to hear about that man! Sucks!
Not to add salt to the wound, but just because your alignment numbers may be "in spec" doesn't mean your car is aligned correctly. I've learned that the hard way myself. Evenness from one side of the car to another can be just as important. Most of the ding dongs working at the chain tire stores don't have a clue when it comes to a quality alignment.
Edit: Now that I've actually looked at the pics... Good lord. The tires are down to the cords on the insides... Your alignment is 100% the problem, not the tires. Take the car to get an alignment at a shop that really understands suspension. Might be more expensive up front, but it absolutely would have saved your tires.

Oh yeah, WTF. Your alignment was totally ****ed. Down to the cords on the insides of the tires.
Since you jumped the curb you should also check to see no suspension parts are bent..... that really sucks.

I agree with you guys in the alignment woes, I cant say thats the only issue as 3 out of 4 tires gone. Anyhow, taking the rim this Friday to get repaired and new Toyo's should be in tomorrow. No pun intended here, but obviously will need to get her aligned as well.

Sucks since those are expensive tires, I would suggest taking your car to an alignment shop that has experience with lowered vehicles, no need to align your car every 2-3 months unless you hit a curve every 2 - 3 months or track your car regularly.
I am glad it was not worse.
However, there is no such thing as "wear wires"... they are the INSIDE of the tire poking through to the outside. Tires do have wear bars which indicate the tires need replacement when there is about 1/16" of tread left.
From my experience getting an alignment does not mean the suspension is properly aligned. It is VERY hard to find a good alignment shop. I always check my tires for even wear every month and I am on stock suspension. I currently use a race shop and the tire wear has been very even.
I am sure from this point forward you will check your tires often for even tread wear.

My specs are similar... -2 camber. More, actually. And my PSS have been wearing very even, which is a relief to me, because I certainly can't rotate with a 1.5" stagger. The PSS are the best tires I've ever owned. Worth every pretty penny, IMO.
Alignment, alignment, alignment.
Alignment, alignment, alignment.
If i remember right PSS were discontinued for a period of time and there are a bunch around that are rotted. Ive had mine on for maybe 10k miles, -2.5 camber all around and no problems. If you do go again make sure they arent from that batch. Sorry to hear about this man
Performance wise, amazing tire. Not going to beat a dead horse here...but the Toyo Proxes T1 Sports will be a very similar performance for a fraction of the price. Haven't had a single issue with them on the wife's G...go figure
Just to piggy back off others....yes extremely thankful I didn't have my kids in the car nor another car merging as I was turning. Things could have definitely been worse. Still not a good experience though.

The important thing is that you're okay. That bent rim looks like it's fixable also so keep your head up bro!
