I'm getting ready to order some as3+ tires. I have the staggered coupe 19 with the usual 245/275 combo now. Can someone talk me into why I should get 245/40 all around? I will be ordering tonight

I should have said I have a 08x sedan. The wheels are staggered so I can't rotate. Could save about 160 buy going square. I do have soacers to fill the gap.

 

Spacers aren't the issue, it's how the tire fits the different widths.
You can still go square but as long as the tires aren't directional you can swap sides but just keep the rear wheels in the rear and fronts up front.

 

I get it now. But for handling purposes I won't notice a thing? Also does going squared then adding soacers negate the fact of going squared? Not that I go to the track it's just once in a while I like to get aggressive. Now I notice that over bumps it feels like the rear wheels lose traction. Is that due to the tire, bad struts or both. I have fa 500 coming next week. I have 137k in the odometer.

Right now they are 245/275 eagle f1 assymetrical all seasons. They still have some life in them. I just had my front lower control arms replaced today. Next week the FA 500 should be here. Lately my car has been following the grooves in the road and it feels like my rear tires have wheel hop. I know my struts are shot so hopefully the coils will improve that. I'm thinking of getting some Michelin as3+ for the coupe 19s. I'm also looking into the forgestar cf10

 

I'd stick with what Venom said, he is pretty damn knowledgeable and I also looked into it for the same reason and having a bit better handling since its front biased heavy buttt the VDC and ECU isnt setup for it and IDK how easy it is to have the adjusted accordingly. However plenty of members on here do it.

 

Spacer has NOTHING to do with the tire.
How much of a wheel stagger are we talking?

 

VDC only cares if there is a rotation speed difference between wheels. Whether it's created by wheelspin or different diameter wheels/tires is irrelevant.

The ECU doesn't know or care about wheel diameters or widths. Its concern in re the drivetrain stops at the transmission tailshaft where it senses shaft speed to drive the speedometer. It's expect the owner will be smart enough to keep rear tire diameters nearly stock so the speedo will be reasonably close to the 7% inaccuracy built-in by the factory and the almost accurate odometer.

 

The 245/275 stagger is ok as long as you don't let the rears wear down to the point where your difference front to back is 1%, that's where problem w/ the AWD system have been reported at speeds over 75mph. Since the back tires are already 0.5% smaller if they wear a lot more than the fronts you may have that AWD light come on.


The 245/40 on all 4 is ok since you only have a 1/2" stagger, you still can't do a full rotation though since you need to keep the wider wheels in back.

 

Brad which setup would get me more flush with a 1 finger drop. The 275 in the rear or a 245 in the rear with a 15" spacer? Or is the 285 an option for the rear?

 

I meant 1 finger gap with the drop.

 

It would be about the same, the 275 is 30mm wider at the tread block, so 15mm out from a 245 at the fender. I wouldn't run anything wider than a 275 on that 9" rear coupe wheel.
