Powdercoat Rims?

Hi Guys, So I am looking to powdercoat my stock 19 sport rims on my 2012 G37xS coupe. I was wondering if any of you have gone through the process and can give me some advice on what to look for in terms of the shop that will be doing them or asking them about certain processes that need to be taken when powdercoating. I do not want some hack doing the wheels in his garage at his mom's house.

Since you live in a big metro area you should have several good shops around. Do a google & yelp for shops around and go to one that gets good reviews and have them show you some of their work.
If your wheels are in good shape it should be a simple job, if they are severely rashed, dinged etc they will need to be reconditioned prior to paint. Powdercoating needs solid metal to bond to so a wheel that's reconditioned w/ body filler won't work well. Not sure if some powdercoat shops can also do the wheel prep, might ask about that if yours need help.
Check this thread for many stunning powdercoat finishes, there's so many choices it's mind boggling.

Come this March I am getting mine done as well. Do not know much about the process but have heard that form the heating on the oven at such high temps, it is bad for the rim supposedly but I do not see myself going 160 on the interstate either. I've heard good and bad from it but I do know if they are painted already or have anything on them, they will need heated and restored to what they originally were.

Also I would not pay more than 500 for your set to be done. And incase you didn't know, everything will need to be removed from the rim because they have to put the rims in the oven for the powder coating.

Yeah the place I am going to will charge $600 for Dismount, take-off tires, powdercoat, then re-install. You think that's still too much?

Well to be completely honest I am not sure. The guy that is powder coating mine is charging me 200 for all 4 rims and then I have a local mechanic that is a close friend. Have not yet hooked up with him to find a price about taken everything off. So when I find this out I can let you know but I am away at school and am not sure when I will be going home again to find out. I might just find out when I go home lol

Where I live it ranges from $80-$95 per tire including balancing and mounting, which is very reasonable. So it should be under $500.

So $50 for the rim, how much for the whole wheel?
