Curb Rash on OEM sport wheel

Just a few days before my 1 year anniversary with this car and I got a really nasty curb rash.

I was making a right turn out of a parking lot, and I got a little distracted. I started turning the car too early and the right rear wheel didn’t get pass the cliff of the curb, so it dropped down and made a loud thumping sound. It sounded so bad, I was sure there would be a big dent on the side of my car. I parked to check out the damage, and it looks like only the wheel took a hit.
What sucks is that the car was basically perfect before this happened, but now it’s flawed. I look at the wheel whenever I go to my car and I’m filled with disgust, lol.

I’m curious what kind of prices others have paid to get something like this fixed. I looked around online and saw some replacement wheels going for $261.00, so I’m thinking a wheel repair should be lower than that.

Maybe I'm just cheap, but id just sand them nicely and use some paint... I've used girlfriends nail polish before... She was pissed, but who uses greyish nailpolish, ew.

total cost, 6 bux.

But, for a shop to fix, I've had friends pay around 60 bucks for a guy that comes to his house / work and fix them on the car. Sweet mobile rim repair.

Yeah here in Vegas we have Alloy Wheel Repair, in which they usually charge 45 a rim plus a destination fee. So roughly about 80 to 100 for the repair.

I have had good luck with the JB Weld SteelStik. It is a 2 part epoxy putty that can easily be pressed into the curb rash and then sanded/painted after.

So there's 2 ways (possibly more??) that you could repair your rims. One is to use putty to fill in the gaps that were scraped off and sand it down so it'll look "fixed" if you will. The mobile rim repair services offer this option since the materials can be packed and moved around easily. From what I've seen however, these are a hit or miss and after a year or so, it may begin to come off.

The second method is to have a shop actually re-machine the wheels. Doing it this way means no fillers, no curing, no coming apart later. It might be more expensive but it's a safer bet especially if you plan to keep the wheels for a long time.

Here are some before and after pictures of what happened with my rims.

My back wheel hit a curb when I was making a turn and slightly dented the lip:

That very same night after I got the back wheels back, I was out and ended up severely curb rashing my front wheel as well :

Took the wheels back to the shop the following week and had them work their magic:

Hope that helps...good luck!

^That looks good. Thanks for all the responses. I think I've gotten over the initial shock and now I may wait a bit before trying to get a repair, but I'll post pics after.

I just had the same thing happen to me in a McDonald's drive thru. I will never go through a drive thru again! I have an appointment to get it fixed tomorrow. I got a quote for $90. The hard thing I heard from various shops when I was calling around is that it is very hard to match the color because Infiniti doesn't release a color code. I'm hoping mine turn out good.

Looks great. Typically, wheel repair for curb rash, depending on how bad, is $50-100 per wheel.

Thank you. I was surprised it was so cheap. Living in the DMV area, many places try to change for the type of car you have and not the job that has to be done. If that's makes any sense.
