Proud New Owner w/ Tire Questions
Hey guys,
I'm the proud new owner of a 2013 G37x and I love it!
It's running the stock 225/55R17 Goodyear RS-As and I don't really like them. I'm looking to upgrade to either ultra-high performance all-seasons or an ultra-high performance sports. After pouring over tirerack.com for hours, I determined that the best tires don't come in the stock size, but are available in 235/50R17. From my calculations, these would only be a 1.8% rolling diameter difference. They would fit the stock rims and run without a problem right? My favorite at the moment is the Pilot A/S 3.
As far as the all-season vs. summer debate, I'm aware of the responsiveness and handling trade-offs, but what sort of a difference am I looking at in terms of tread life between the two? If the summers will only last half as long that's going to affect how much I'm willing to pay for them.
Don't worry about winter weather. In Virginia I don't see much and I'm confident AWD will carry me through it. If it proves to be an issue I'll slap the RS-As back on and wait out the winter.
Thanks!
P.S. I don't have the money for 18s or 19s right now, so those suggestions, while tempting, can not be considered in my situation =/

Did you compare the treadwear ratings from the UTQG numbers on both tires? If the treadwear numbers are similar, then how long they last will be similar. Not the same, but similar. Comparing those numbers is not really a science, but if one tire's number is half the other's then you'll know they'll get approximately half the life.
Welcome to the site, congrats on your X and glad you found us!
I'd run 245/50/17s, you'll only be out about 0.37% and you're still within the recommended rim width for that size tire (7 to 8.5")
As far as going w/ summers over A/S, Summers all day long, especially since you have a plan for going back to winter tires when the time comes. It also depends how many miles you're planning on driving, but even then, I'd just bight the bullet w/ the summers, you'll enjoy what your G can really do that way

Hey blnewt for our x sedans with the 18 inch duck feet. What would you recommend the best fitting. Was thinking of going the Michelin PSS. But I don't know if I should go square all around or do 245's in the front and wider in the rear ?

If you don't have to worry about snow then PSS is definitely one of the best sticky summers you can get.
X ducks are 7.5" wide all around I think, so you wouldn't want to run 245 because they are more for 8" and especially for x you should run square stock 225/50/18 to avoid any issues and you can also rotate for better tire life.

Good point about the 245s, even some brands don't go down as narrow as a 7.5 on the 245.
I just picked up a 2011 G37X a couple of weeks ago myself from CarMax. They put on 4 new Goodride SA07 tires in the stock size 17" wheels. I have never heard of this manufacturer and there isn't much information on the internet about them. The reviews I have seen are from Europe and people seem to like them. Does anyone know anything about these tires or the manufacturer?

Some sites list them as All Seasons and others as a Summer tire so would be good to know for sure

Thanks for your response! I liked your suggestion of going to 245s, but it really doesn't seem like there are many tires available in that size. How much worse would it be to go to 235s so I have a better selection? For example, The ExtremeContact DW, S-04 Pole Position, and Pilot A/S 3 are only available in a 235/50R17.
